Range Report The BEST iPhone Ballistic program ????

Re: The BEST iPhone Ballistic program ????

I have both Ballistic FTE and Bulletflight for my iphone. I have come to like Ballistic a bit better for the ability to customize a bit more and a few more features. Both work well but I like Ballistic's features and usability better.

Re: The BEST iPhone Ballistic program ????

.25MOA,

If you think that Bullet Flight is very average and basic, I'm tempted to ask if you are using it correctly?

Secondly, what exactly do you want iPhone ballistic software to do?

If I really want to explore exterior ballistics, I'll use my copy of Sierra V, although I will be upgrading to VI soon. OR I'll use 'Load from a Disk'

If I want to carry my ballistic software with me, I use the iPhone, works every time to within a click out to 300yds, and that's without me putting in the exact MV of my load.

I have created tables for all of my rifles in Bullet Flight, and they all work well.

I come back to my original question, "What do you want it to DO?"

Neil

PS, where on the east coast? I'm in Sydney right now, so you are probably in bed

Glorious day today, but I leave tomorrow afternoon, only 30 hours on the ground. Maybe we could hook up for a tinny or two next time I'm in town?

Off topic, I second your comment on the weather today in Sydney Paduan, it was simply amazing!!! Went for a fish in the harbour and a swim afterwards, then it was fish and chips for lunch... real tough life.

On topic, I tend to use Ballistic FTE. Bullet Flight does not have as many features IMHO.

Re: The BEST iPhone Ballistic program ????

+1 ballistic FTE
I have had great success varminting with this app, it's always put me within .5 moa in various wind conditions out to 500yrd with my 22-250

(armed with a wind meter and rangefinder)

the GPS function works well also, automatically filling in all atmospheric/altitude numbers for you.

I have not used/seen the other program tho..

If you like JBMs ballistic software on the Internet, then you will love FTE

Re: The BEST iPhone Ballistic program ????

No, but what it does come with is in its database is very limited anyway to specific Mil rifles. Unless you have the exact same gun, you're going to have to modify it anyway.

What Ballistic does is give you a HUGE bullet database as well as a factory load database. For example - if you are shooting a Winchester 150 grn SP factory load from Walmart - it is in the Ballistic FTE database. KAC has a much smaller bullet DB and no factory round DB.

In addition, you're going to probably make a custom profile anyway based on YOUR handload/rifle combo - and both programs allow you to do that. I just think Ballistic has a lot more custom features to build that profile.

BL is both work - it just depends on what features you like or want.

The Ballistic does not have listings for specific rifles just bullets and factory loaded ammo. I think that BulletFlight does. I run the Ballistic FTE on my I-Touch and would recomend it. The heads up display feature is the cats ass.

Re: The BEST iPhone Ballistic program ????

I like Ballistic FTE, I can pick what max range, what range increments I want, mil/MOA, Have it show me how many clicks (1/10th mil/ 1/4th/ 1/2nd/ 1/8th MOA etc..). I can choose altitude, compare my zero conditions versus my current for POI changes.... No there is no rifle specific data but it essentially let's you pick every other thing can think of. Put in your MV, correct bullet, correct conditions, how you want it to display and you have a very accurate dope table (don't forget the correct drag table!).

That's true - but what is picking a specific rifle going to do for you? And note in Bulletflight - you're not just picking a rifle - you're picking a rifle/bullet combo. For example - one of the choices is M40A3 with M118LR. Well that's great IF you have a real M40A3 and M118LR. But if you don't, you're going to have to modify the MV to match your gun's performance. All picking a specific rifle is going to do is give you a starting point for MV. The software writers are just assigning a MV to a placeholder. So while I thought it was a cool idea to have several gun selections listed - they really did me no good because I had to create my own profiles anyway.
