First off, I am certainly no saint and am full of faults. So this is a question not a statement...

Will this chinese virus bring out the best of the USA, or the worst?

Easiest answer is a combination of the above...I suppose.

We see front line health care workers putting themselves, their families and loved ones in harms way...to help us.

We see truckers, stock people, warehouse workers, farmers etc...working to support all of us.

Yet with all the good I cannot help but to see increasing division.

One has to at least entertain that if the virus was intentional, then the commies had a pretty damn good idea how it would start to stress our societal integrity...they would also know it could not be proven.

How it would pit neighbor versus neighbor, state versus state, govt versus its people, people versus it govt, young versus old, rich versus poor, poor versus rich...

Are we playing exactly into their plans? And yes, I realize that even though there is no evidence it was man made and science is telling is it jumped from a bat...

Interesting times indeed. And once this passes...and it will pass, how will we as Americans be changed?

Again, not a soap box. Just observations including some much needed self reflection.

It has reaffirmed for me how most people are selfish, inconsiderate, illogical idiots. Easily panicked and sheep like. Too willing to trust and obey what their masters in the media and government command. Stay at home for 6 months? No problem. Don't come within 6' of each other? No problem. Let's suspend the Constitution and all personal liberty because the all knowing Governor says so? No problem. Makes me want to move and build a cabin in the most remote part of Alaska where I don't see a soul unless I take a plane and fly 100+ miles.

"The more I know of people, the more I like my dogs" has never been truer.

My observation, so far, is that just like after 9/11, people have become more polite. A good crisis can bring us together but if it goes on too long will likely tear us apart.

The way I see this,

In the army you see people's true colors when you either go to the field for a long time or deploy. People have a habit of showing themselves when they are in a stressful situation and that when you can honestly judge someone by seeing how they are.

I've seen good leaders and bad leaders l, as I came up through the ranks and realized which ones to emulate and which ones not to.

Civilians are the same, your neighbor can act like they care and want to help, but you truly don't know until the SHTF. Sadly a lot of people these days are full of shit. I don't rely on anyone besides my family because I know I can count on them 100% of the time.

The funniest thing to me about all of this is how little my family's life has changed. Other than my oldest not having preschool or lacrosse sessions, it's like nothing has changed. My wife is an ICU nurse and I'm a lineman and farm a bit. We still wake up and go to work and do the shit we always do, guess that shows how little frivolity we have in our lives.

Yesterday the woman and I went out on a motorcycle ride. I noticed more than usual amount of people sitting on the porch or in the shade on lawn chairs.
I figure when this is over there will be a mad rush back to "civilization" but a large portion of the people may realize that their life was a rat race. Little Johny and Susy having Mom and Dad running their ass off to the soccer game, ballet practice, t-ball, softball and any number of other things.
Life may get simpler again for many people.

While there are good people out there most are self centered, self serving morons that are looking for an excuse to be the asshole they truly are. If we can help those around us we should but take care of you and yours first.

People have been pretty chill around here. I suspect that might change if we get to the point of roadblocks and padlocked grocery store doors.

We ain't anywhere near the point of "crisis's yet.

Whether it be violence or love, we will survive and endure.

Will it force the Liberals out of the cities permanently? Thus bringing the unconquered territories under their control?

The US citizens certainly don't have the sense of patriotism that existed around WWII. We've allowed too many into the country that are here for the money and not country. Weakness.

The practice of major metro areas, putting your assets in clusters, makes for easy attacks with crippling results. Weakness.

Lack a trade/physical skill oriented workers and emphasis on metro-sexual cubicle dwellers. Weakness

Everyone gets a trophy or handout mentality. Weakness.

Generations that have experienced little to no real inconveniences. Weakness.

The number of inexperienced book smart people vs experienced street smart people. Weakness.

Generations that spend the majority of their free time staring at electronic screens filled with mush. Weakness.

The number of metro's that will panic and move to rural areas spreading their weakness' is similar to our open boarders policies. Weakness.

If this weakens the socialist/anti-racist/equality movements. Benefit.

It will get interesting.

I’d venture to guess if shit got really bad to where there were no groceries in the cities you would see behavior of animals spread across the country like wildfire. Those people born and raised in the cities won’t do good playing “naked and afraid”. They will steal to feed themselves pure and simple. They won’t know any other way.

I never thought I would see the Republican party cheer MMT and whole heartedly embrace socialism. Im still a little shocked but I guess if a Republican oversees it, supporters think it’s fine. I guess this brings out the best of everyone when free money is dropped from helicopters.
