I have seen many picture threads but never an official budget rifle thread. Yes, I used the Hides Google search but nothing came up quite like this. This kinda thing helps everyone (including myself) with acquiring some new ideas on their rifle builds. Shall we start with some rules...... (Get on a budget!)

-FACTORY ACTION.

-Barreled action and stock must cost you under $1500. (New or used parts).

-Any accessories you want (scopes, bipods, rails, exc.)

-Short description on how you accomplished the build.

For example: A build I am currently working on, Rem 700 SPS 20" $550 barely used. Then the mods begin! Total so far in barreled action and B&C stock= $800

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

I purchased my 700 Police in 308 used for $725 with harris bipod, leopold scope base and rings, badger bolt knob installed, and the bolt trued. Then I bought an EGW 20 MOA base and Burris XTR rings for $60, Falcon Menace 5-25x50 FFP scope $425, HS Precision HRT stock with Hooper DBM installed $475, 2 10 round Alpha mags $130. Between selling the factory HS stock, BM, and leopold base and rings total cost is sitting right at $1525. But I still need a cheek rest and sling. So the eventual total will be a little over $1600. With FGMM 175/168 grain it shoots .6-1 moa. So far I'm very happy.

I haven't had an opportunity to shoot it with the T2 yet...just finished our basement and got my reloading bench set back up. Rolled some the other night and hopefully I'll send some within the next couple weeks.

With the A2 Medalist, it would shoot 130gr Berger VLDs better than my current skill level - consistently 5 shots into 0.5" @ 100yd, which is the longest range I have easy access to. I plan to verify load's performance with the new stock then take it to 300-600 at my parents' farm.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

ColdBore, that is one nice build. Nice handmade stock that you dont see many people doing anymore. Gotta love the Krieger barrel.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

rem 700 sps 20" harris bipod leupold mk4 lr/t......1200.00
b&c a-5 stock.....350.00

total= helluva lota fun (for being at work)

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

In the early days:

3guns.jpg

Used 700 Police, came with a Simmons Pro50 and a medium Harris. This was my first rifle paint job.

Now it has a TPS base and rings and is currently wearing a borrowed Leupold Mk4. I bedded it and burned up a Dremel installing the Surgeon bottom metal, but it turned out great. Hooper installed the bolt knob thanks to a Practical Marksman match donation, and I had SAS cut the barrel to 20" and thread it after I won an Arbiter Ti at ASC. Im running a Mountain Shooter sling. I'll be shooting it at the Practical Marksman again in 2 weeks.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

Nice rifle Red. Good luck at the Practical Marksman match! Let us know how ya did.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

^^^ ha, then you'll like this one.

action - $250 (pawn shop)
Lothar Walther 24in barrel, chambered (22-250) and threaded - 310
Muzzle brake - 65
Choate stock - 150
Bondo for the "custom" grip - 13
JB weld for "custom" bolt handle - 8
bipod - 40
table - 40
wheels, bolts, carpet, foam, masking tape (for my uber-accurate "custom" ballistic turret) - 17
Spray paint - 7
Mt dew - .89

Total - $908.89, not including the scope of course. If you count in the Nikon Monarch I just took off last week instead of the NF, grand total is 1,433.89.

Is it a GAP? Definitely not! But it hits what I aim at, so I'm a happy camper!

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

^ thats more like it. I think this encompasses the idea of the topic.

I like it....it has character

P.S. .89 for mtn dew....could have cut some costs there

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

I'll play. This is my newest rig although all the pieces aren't pictured. The stock also doesn't have checkering anymore, I've since sanded them down for the m40 look.

-Remington 700 ADL: $375
-Vintage 1" Redfield Circle 3-9x: $110
-1970 Remington 700 wood stock:$80
-Redfield Jr base and Rings: $75
-Trigger job: $45
-Metal Butt plate model #16601(Not pictured): $10

As it sits right now Im at $695, thats taxes and shipping included. Im still missing a new reticle on the redfield and a cheek pad. So with both those I'll be at $820 ready to go!

Not to bad!

Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 EMDR scope with sun shade and Butler Creek caps (eye lens cap not on) - $730
random bipod and sling = $50

Still waiting on:
Rifle Basix SAV-1 trigger - $85
Stockade rollover thumbhole - $335
Stockade AICS bottom metal - $200

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

700AAC-1.jpg

Sorry this is the only pic I've taken of it so far!

700 AAC-SD 308 short action, professionally installed bolt knob, Leupy 15moa base, Burris XTR low rings, B&C M40 stock tan/black web, Tac Ops stock pack, Harris knockoff 6-9 swivel, PST 4-16x50 FFP.

I'd call it a budget gun! I haven't got to the range with it really, so no idea of how it shoots. I put 4rds down range the other day, while shooting with a buddy, but light was fading quickly and it was pistol day!

Lots of nice rifles in here! Nice to see more than me on a budget and posting on the hide! I'm thinking about some more upgrades, but not sure what. Any suggestions?

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

I've always known the little things add up, but I've never actually looked at the list laid out like this. I have to admit I'm that person who looks at buying a new rifle just as the cost of the rifle. But then you gotta get all the extra shit for it and before you know it...where'd all my money go!? haha

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

rrflyer.... Very nice set up. Im going to be doing something similar but with a savage action.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

Yeah I've got some devcon and some marine tex that I'm figuring on bedding and doing some texturing on the stock. The trigger is factory set at 3.5lbs and it will be on the list to replace at some point, but just not sure when. I really need to get out and shoot the dang thing and see what it is capable of! Thanks for the kind words guys.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

i scored this 308 mauser with a hvy contour 1 in 10 douglas bbl, a millett 4-16x50mm for 550$ on the hide a while back. now the stock that is on it now i made for 75$. so 625$ in total. it shot 1 moa 5 shot groups at 100 with the old stock with this new stock im thinking i can do better with more load developing

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

Been reading around here for a while now, first post though.

My rifle is definitely a budget gun. I had $1000.00 to use. I went over slightly.

Savage 10 in a Choate stock, .308 with a 24" barrel....$650.00 new.
Nikon Buckmaster 6-18 mildot......$315.00 new.
Leupold base and rings......$15.00 new/Cabela's bargain cave.
Caldwell 6-9" bipod......$40.00 new.
Home built 10 round mag...$15.00.

Total $1035.00

Not real fancy or expensive, but it got me started. It will slowly progress as funds change. I need more trigger time and I think it will be a sweet shooter. I have included a few targets that are kind of the norm. 5 shot groups @ 100 yards with different loads trying to find the right one.

Looks a lot like mine does but I have since changed glass. With glass I can't post in here as it became less of a budget rifle at that point. Rifle is still budget but glass is not like my original buckmaster.

Original

Savage 10fp
Added choate stock and bottom metal (tupperware stock is terrible)
Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 mildot
Weaver 2 piece base 0moa
Harris 6-9 w/podlock
---
Have since added
dark eagle customs 10 round mag and another factory Mag
EGW 20moa base
SWFA 5-20x50 Illuminated Mil-Quad Scope
Sling (Mountain something can't remember off hand but it is nice)

First appearance

Will have to take a current picture and update later.

Thank you! It was the first pillar-bedding job I ever done so it was a good learning experience. I was happy with the color of the Norrel's Grey-flat for a military parkerized look. The stock finish is just cheap linseed oil.

I really like this look. Is there anywhere that I might be able to find a guide on how to apply a paint job like this?
