The dilemma

About ready to make another purchase but can’t seem to decide on what it will be. I have a hefty budget to work with that was approved by the finance minister aka the wife.

Here’s what I’m stuck between. 308 rifle more than likely AR type. I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to a gap-10 g2 or a Wilson combat super sniper. Optics bipod the whole nine to go with it. I’m including this next bit because I feel it’s an important part to the equation. I live in NW IL closest outdoor public rifle range with a 100yrd rifle is 1.5 hours away. 100yrds is kinda of child’s play for these rifles. There is a private range also 1.5 hours away with a 600yrd rifle. Of course a membership fee is involved with that one. With that being said I could go another route which brings up the dilemma.

The second option I’ve been going over is a mcx rattler with red dot etc. and a 226 legion plus a bunch of mags and ammo for both.

What’s a guy to do?

If you're driving an hour, an hour and a half isn't that much more, unless you're constantly pressed for time when you do shoot.

I would get bored quickly at 100yd with basically any centerfire rifle. That has nothing to do with my skill or lack thereof and everything to do with my attention span, so ymmv of course. Is it worth whatever $ they're charging at the private club worth it to you to get to play at 600yd? Answer that and I think you'll solve your dilemma.

I've been in your shoes before and it's the worst thing ever not having a respectable range anywhere close to you. If the 600 yard range is the max your even capable of finding, I put the .308 on the back burner and pick up/build a 6.5 Grendel
