The Florida UPS shooting thread?

Close to me. This is why I carry.

Also the Cops spend most of their time in reasonably calm circumstances. Then boom 10-15 seconds of total chaos. Tough job.

Frank draws a line when talking about law enforcement in a negative light. If you're going to bring this up here, tread lightly.

With that said, here's a thought: if Boward County had a helicopter to follow the UPS van, why did they not use it, and instead decide a wild west shootout into crowded traffic full of bystanders was the best decision to make? Bigger question: where was the leadership?

It was the UPS driver’s first day on the job as a driver.
Yup and with two young girls as well, very sad.
The incident happened about 45min south of me. Jewelry store robberies have become extremely common around here the last few years. Just last year ten minutes from my house two teens drove up from Broward where this recent shooting took place and robbed a jewelry store. The owner shot and killed one of them (driver) as they were leaving.

I'm trying to think about it this way, if the suspects open fire in the middle of a bunch of random traffic those cops probably wouldn't know whether to shit or go blind. Them unloading into the suspect vehicle was certainly heavy-handed, but if these folks took one hostage in a POS UPS truck what will stop them from hopping into a family SUV and taking them all hostage right there? This really looks like a robbery that turned into a poorly handled violent event at large. I heartily doubt there was a direct call to light up the UPS truck in any case, maybe it was an ND from one side or the other, maybe somebody jumped the gun on purpose, but it looks like shit hit the fan and nobody knew where their ass was hanging.

Just wait for facts to come out. I think it matters who shot who, who shot first, why they shot first, and what the rate of escalation was for the situation up to the point shit got rowdy. If 19 cops put 200 bullets in the bad guys that's a win in regard to the gunfight, but yea if they put 198 in the bad guys and two in citizens that's not good.

Tell me how dead citizens can be rationalized with further “facts”.

Stupid shit.

I hope something comes out that makes me eat my words. But this is a bunch of retards with guns.

Nothing is going to come out n make you eat your words....... nothing.
What is going to come out is going to make you madder....
Worse than A.J. n deer-snixxr madder...

Just sayin....
I did 38 years worth. I'm not happy at all with this. There are too many un-answered ? out there on this, and none of it looks good.

There is only one scenario that justifies 19 shoot 200 times, and that would be "they saw the robbers kill the driver and heard them planning to hijack mom n kids", AND , we know that DIDNT happen.. see post above...
This has all the appearance of adrenaline overload, stress misconduct, and shooting the driver to stop the continuing escalation and, ahhhh, driver was innocent ups guy acting under extreme duress.....

That's what all the stuff looks like so far. Looks can be deceiving and all that. Time will tell, but I think @Bender should get his BP meds refilled along with a double anti-stress prescription, just sayin... stay cool brother Bender, change what you can where you can...

I have always supported law enforcement but this also has me pissed. The way this looks now I’m not sure how there going to keep a half dozen officers out of prison And if they chose to spin this I think public trust could really go down the drain. I pray the officers see something the video doesn’t show that somehow justified this but at this point it’s unimaginable.

If the suspects had opened fire on other citizens or had executed their hostage and the situation was escalating toward mass murder per their actions in response to pursuit.

If I walk into a group of cars and start shooting people while using a human shield, what the fuck should the cops do exactly? Jump in front of the citizens like fucking Kevin Cosner? Fast rope out of a chopper and GSG 9 me through a windshield? They don't pay enough taxes for that shit, that's private and federal security bro, we're just peasants. We don't know the whole story and if anyone says they can tell shit from shinola in the videos I've seen they are full of mud. Personally, it looks like they indeed were just a bunch of retards with guns, but that's what you pay for and that's what you get when you delegate your own security to the state. When you have dead citizens with cop bullets in them get mad about it, it's very likely that's the case, but until I hear about that and I hear about what started the shooting specifically I'm not getting bothered one way or the other. A thorough investigation is in order, and I don't expect it to be flattering to the PD at all, but it's definitely still needed.

The UPS truck bulkhead to the package area is fairly thick metal. Any shots behind that bulkhead may have been stopped by it. If the perps started shooting and the cops returned fire it could explain the volume of lead flying. The cops approached from the rear behind that bulkhead. If the perps kept shooting so would the cops.

I'll wait on the facts.

you can watch them shot him in this video.

Looks like one shot at the cops and somebody shot him through the windshield for it, then rest of the blue team lights up everyone. Doubt anyone could have lived through that shit if they were anywhere in the cabin, clearly the officers didn't know what the fuck they were actually shooting at. If there's a single perp bullet in anybody I'll be fucking surprised. Who knows what we can't see/hear, but what we can see is now pretty conclusive in my mind.

What kinda pisses me off now is that UPS thanked the PD for their service over this shit. That's so fucked up lol.

What if the perps were shooting others too? And there just happen to be others everywhere? Would they not have a responsibility to end the threat? Or stand down and get skewered for that.

Tough call. I will not condemn without facts. 15 seconds of video by the trusted (eye roll) MSM, is not the whole story. JMHO

Agreed. I would think proactive engagement is sometimes warranted.

However, my question is how much of an immediate threat the jackers were to others while surrounded and pinned in the truck.

But certainly agree and would also support proactively ending an immediate threat.

I understand even a slight hesitation can lead to a much larger loss of life.

Once they opened up on the cops it became an active shooter situation. When that happens my standing plan is to end the threat first and foremost. Though that doesn't mean I'm going to pull that trigger without knowing exactly what the bullet is going to hit, and potentially hit after that, every single time. There's a right and wrong way to protect others with your weapon, shooting them by accident sure as fuck ain't the right way. An investigation would be interesting as a matter of course, but my mind's pretty made up on it from what I've seen at this point. Retards with guns get shot at by dickheads with guns, mass pants shitting ensues.

sad that innocent people perished. also sad that some bad guys woke up this morning thinking they were going to get away with this. As long as bad guys do bad stuff innocent people will suffer. you can be a sheep or a sheep dog, just not a wolf

If I'm in that SUV with my family I dump it in reverse and back the fuck up out of there. If I was alone and officers were down taking fire then I would use my SUV to provide cover to get them out of there.

I would imagine a lot of people will be losing their jobs on this one.
