The Great Resignation

This right here. If the average middle class person wasn't in debt up to their eyeballs and had some rainy day savings, they would be amazed at the freedom they would have to say no to corporate BS.
So true in my area. Either try to be rich, or look rich. Around here you were able to drop out of high school, or graduate, step into 70K minimum jobs thanks to oil and coal. Grunt oil field workers pulling down 110K, living in damn nice houses with every toy known to man. But pulling 95 hours a week to get it. The plug gets pulled often around here, and people struggle, yet always survive.
Most middle class around here will never entertain the idea of a financial advisor till his mid to late 50's, maybe even early 60's. Other than an employers suggestion to enroll in the company 401K, which a lot treat as a savings account.
I can see some debt, as a necessary evil, but today we are programmed that our house could be our major investment in life, and not many downsize.
My attitude toward company changes was always better when I was carrying vehicle debt, or a boat loan. But if push came to shove, i would have had to face the fact that I had become accustomed a fair amount of disposable income for minimum hours worked. I may have not been the classic debt slave, but I was a slave to the dollar for 35 yrs.

how's them 401's going to work out when the stock market takes a dump shortly and doesn't come back for 5+ years? my brother says when the interest rates start going up, it helps his retirement fund, i ask him what good will it do when inflation triples what the interest is gaining for him. They don't want socialism for you to have any money

I'll take my chances with my Vanguard accounts. They have been saying (The Experts) that it's all gonna crash, it's all a flash in the pan for 12 years now. In that time I have tripled my retirement income fund by ignoring them.

Or I could put it in the Bank/buy CD's that pay less than hiding it under the bed. 10% of my Retirement Fund is in Gold. 3 years ago I had a bunch of IRA money in Wells Fargo CD's making me literally nothing. I sold them all and bought a Mutual Fund that invests heavily in Wells Fargo Stock and made 28% last year. I'll take my chances on the whole economy/stock market collapsing because then my Gold will be worth God knows how much.

I semi-retired Jun 2020 (retired from the Army). It's a working retirement because 1 in college, 1 going to be in college and I like firearms, cannons, NV, thermals etc etc etc
Once I feel that I have somewhat covered my bases and the kids are out of college I am pulling pitch and really retiring on a little farm with my cannons.

I remember, well, when the IRA's and the 401k's started the ground rules were in favor of the working man........ Over the years the crooked politicians kept on changing the rules and taking a bigger slice of the pie..... At any given moment these current thieves could change the rules and a man would lose 100%...........

Turn 67 in March and plan on keeping working for a few more years. Will be able to draw SS without being penalized for continuingto work. Well compensated with good benefits as PM on large construction projects and enjoy the work. FIL is 87 and still farming but may have to take over the farm if something happens.

yup. and i fully expect them to do just that at some point. and i think THAT is the day some shit gets straightened out.

Great job! I think you had a great resignation. I also can't wait until I get my resignation. I am so tired of my work and can't wait until the next three years pass. I have made a short notice resignation letter to make a good impression after leaving my job. My boss is a tyrant, and it is impossible to work with him sometimes, but I have great colleagues, and they were always helping me whenever I was getting impossible tasks to do. I want to leave my job and give them a good impression of me.
