Half way through this with Ewan McGregor.

Neat series for anyone who likes long-distance motorcycle riding.

Any 'Hide members want to hit the Arctic Circle in Norway next spring by bike? I'm heading there next spring, departing from Frankfurt c. June 15.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Re: The Long Way Round

Great shows - definitely gets the wanderlust going. The Dakar one with Charlie Boorman by himself is good too, but not as good as Around and Down.

Imagine doing that without the support crew they had.

Re: The Long Way Round

Good series that gives you a serious case of wanderlust...

Re: The Long Way Round

You rang?

I've got the little bother to the R1200GS they ride, the F650GS. Love it, she goes everywhere in every weather (sorry no snow out here though).

For Christmas, I got Boorman's Dakar DVD set...

Wow... I knew it was a tough race, but wow.

Like Boorman, half of me wants to go do it. The other half says: "20 years ago, you might have been good enough (and fit enough) to watch the race from the finish line." Guess I can dream. ;-)

Great series!

The Long Way Round

You can get all the way around the world on a KLR. Although, there was that Brit who did the Sahara on an R1...

For my money, I would do Cape Town and across the Caprivi to Kenya, or Thailand, Burna and Viet Nam.

My old GS way back in 2006 or 2007 somewhere in Nevada. I explored most ALL of Montana , Nevada, Utah and Wyoming on that bike. Always wanted to do the trip up to the Arctic Circle but never did.

Yeah the "Long Way Round" book and video got the Wanderlust stirred up. Great series.

Next couple of years, I'll be doing the Trans-Labrador... anyone who wants to go, drop me a PM. ;-) Probably summer of '15.

Choose carefully the time of year, and bring a mosquito face net, and take a plastic gas can.

That's the truth... rode up to Manic 5 in May 2010. That's where the TLH officially starts. Still too cold for the mosquitos, but it's still in the puckerbrush! Rode a mile onto the TLH with my HD dresser, just to get a feel for it. And though it's been done by folks on HD's, I wouldn't try it. I'll take the GS on it. And there is one section with no gas for 350 miles. You need to carry a container!

The Long Way Round

Sirhr,

Be prepared for miles and miles of nothing until you get to Plaster Rock. Then more of nothing. But, eventually, the coast is beautiful. Until it isn't.

But then, I still chuckle when people here say that Texas is big.

Long way around is better than Long Way Down. It's just more raw and unplanned and that shows. I was so envious when I saw that series, what a life! Been riding since I was a kid and have had all kinds of bikes in adulthood. Have owned seven Ducatis, KTM's, BMWs, lots of Japanese bikes. All that said the GS rules them all. It can blow up your buddies on a mountain twisty, burn down a dirt road, and still look great in front of the coffee shop, few if any bikes are as capable.
