Well after lots of searching, researching, and getting ready for a build off of a 700 action, some money issues came up and the builds were canceled. So the wife and I decided on 2 savages. Hers is a VLP model 12 in 223 with a 1:7, which is not put together yet, so no pictures of it. But, here is my GunBroker win. Savage 10FCP in a McMillan A5 308 with a 1:10x 24". I picked up the 10FCP, new in the box, unfired, for $830. Over the last few day parts have been coming in for it. Still waiting on the Triad stock pack, and Atlas. First the EGW base was bedded to the action for a perfect fit. Then yesterday the Vortex PST's 6-24x50 FFP came in. So today mine was mounted to the rifle, squared away, and loctided in. So next is to find the lands for the different bullets I have on hand, and begin load testing sometime this week. Tests will be run on the 155smk Palma, 178 A-Max, and the 208 A-Max, all with Varget. So without further typing here shit is.

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

Nice rig! Is the action bedded yet? Lap the barrel before ya throw rounds down range and start the break in process. Good luck and give us a range report.

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

I've always been interested in this model if not going the Stevens 200 route. I've been told that the action isn't bedded into this stock, but that opinion is it should be. Is it bedded? If not, are you planning on doing that before or? That was definitely a steal at that price, good shooting to you.

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

Once the wife makes the final decision on the stock for her 12 223, both will be going to Pierce here in MI to get pillar bedded and CDI installed.

Bruno, you think lapping the barrel will make that much of a difference before doing break in?

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

Do you have a borescope and the skill to lap the bore if needed, if not it could do more harm than good!

You will like it. I don't know if there is a better out of the box sub $1000 rifle than a Savage. I have a 10 fcp-k that shoots like a laser. Enjoy. As for the CDI bottom metal, I just had mine inletted in a 700 and I am really pleased with it.

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

Well looks like I will have to wait to enjoy it. I was excited about a long range class here in MI the wife and I were going to in June. That was until today when I got a job out in Butte, NE. So we are going to be moving, and the rifle shooting will have to wait.

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

I have the same rifle/caliber and it easily shoots inside of an inch with most loads. Many claim .5 MOA all day long but that hasn't been my experience. I have about 500 rounds through it and I plan to bed it when I get the time.

A definite congratulations on the new job. Rifle shooting is great, but in this economy, take what you can get!

ETA: oh, and nice rig!

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

I did the barrel break in today with some loads that I just threw together with no development. It shot really really good even though I was not going for any groups.

Akxx, thanks man, am sad we have to leave the family and friends behind but it will be better than a part time job I have now.

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

I have the same rifle. You are going to love this rifle.

When putting on the action, you can crank down as hard as you want on the rear screw because there is a pillar there. I have never heard of McMillans cracking, but I would still be careful torxing down the front action screw because there is no pillar there.

Here are the specs on mine:
Introducing the "Cartmann-M40-Savage-Mac-22-Lester-Hayes"

- Burris Extreme Rings
- EGW 20 MOA base

- Rifle Basix Sav2 Trigger (tuned to 8 oz)
- Accushot monopod
- BlackHawk Cheekrest
- Barrel threaded by Velocity Plus for YHM Silencer Mount
- YHM Silencer Mount
- .308 Stainless Silencer
- Cool Walmart Sling that looks like it was made by Gucci

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

I have a similar rifle. Savage 10 fcp but with the hs precision stock. It shoots amazing and couldn't believe the out of the box accuracy... that being said I'm trying to sell it to get a rifle for my wife.

Re: The new (to me) 10FCP

I have the same rifle as you and it is a shooter. I played with the idea of bedding it but it shoots so well I do not want to change anything. "If it aint broke don't fix it", as the saying goes.
