    McMillan Monster single shot
    Brux Monster Navy contour barrel
    McMillan brake
    McMillan stick

The ambition today was to pork this bugger up. Stock started out at 7.5lbs. Now were at almost 12. LEAD rocks!

Barreled action is all done so now its onto stock work soon as we get this palma build out of the way.

    Here she is:

Setup for machining the bathtub where the lead will go. Since its a single shot were able to stuff it under the bedding and the barrel channel.

OMG Chad....is that an actual old fashioned MANUAL milling machine we see there????

Dammit man, been used to seeing all the really cool tools, glad to see you also have the kind of stuff most of us have to deal with every day!!!!

Love watching your projects, always enlightening.

    Oh Oh, let me guess.

So the .50 doesn't kick the living shit out of the shooter?
    To improve balance?
In hopes of spawning a lead fish?

This looks to be quite the hammer getting going! Had the pleasure of touching off a few in one or kirby allens 24lb raptors....stunning to say the least! This looks like it's gonna be the same kind of stunning..AWESOME!

This thing is an abortion/science project.

Cincinnati horizontal retrofitted with a Gorton vertical head where the cross beam normally goes. We call it "Frank".

Nice for quick jobs, little stuff. . .

    Wrapped up the inletting yesterday.

    Next came the pillars.

1.950" OD action is significantly larger than what were used to seeing so it required some revamping of the pillar design. We decided to skip the thin ribs and go for a larger footprint. We'll see how the bedding turns out. Still has complete captivation though due to how we revised the profile. I don't think they'll go anywhere/rotate on us.

Now she's cookin. Will let it sit till tomorrow. . .

Looks good Chad, looking forward to getting it home. I can tell you that this thing is going to shorten the lifespan of more than a few critters. I will appreciate that lead with that thing strapped to my back.

Hey Chad, thanks for taking the time to post all these pic's, even better than porn IMHO
    grin.gif

I have to ask tho, what's the go with the brake? is it just sitting on there for now or is that where it's indexed to? I would imagine it'd kick up a bit of a stink

Its just screwed on for bedding purposes.

Thanks mate, thought something like that would be the case

    Re: The NEXT 50 build.

Here's the stock after finishing up the bedding.

Not too chabby. We like the revised pillar design. I can't really take credit for this configuration. My good friend Alan Warner was doing it this way years (decades) ago. Seemed like a good way to go with all this receiver.

All in all she looks perty good. We had to do some chewin on the cheek piece as the bolt was draggin pretty hard. I don't quite get it. The receiver is 1.950" OD. Exactly (within +/- .005") .975" is in/out of the stock. The tang is exactly where McMillan initially inletted the stock. Trigger location is spot on, yet we had to cut a trough for the bolt to clear.

Not a deal breaker, just irks me as there's just no getting around it due to the mass/ejection length of the action.

    Oh wells I guess.

    Re: The NEXT 50 build.

Great looking stock. One suggestion.Get rid of that piece of crap bipod mount.I know the stock came with it,but you'd be doing your customer a favor in suggesting another alternative.I installed a state arms mount + bipod on my Tac50 stock. It's a mount and bipod made for a 50's weight and recoil. It would compliment the fine work you've done on the stock.

    Re: The NEXT 50 build.

I ordered the stock with the bipod stud on it thinking the heavy 50 cal versa pod would be the ticket but if there is another that is better I will have Chad swap it out.

    Re: The NEXT 50 build.

Damn Chad! That bedding job is freakin clean!!!

I like the new recessed counterbore piller design. Are you planning to use this new design on future builds?

BTW, What chambering specs. did you use on Mr. Peters rifle? Will this be throated for the 750 A-MAX?

    Thanks

    Re: The NEXT 50 build.

Chad, two questions; Just curious why you wouldn't have put most of the lead in the back of the stock, to help balance the rifle. Maybe the barreled action is so heavy it wouldn't matter?
And then, could you describe the apparent bipod stud in the front? whats the plan there?

We leaded up front/under the action. Intent was to wait n see if it would want more in the back end after testing/before paint.

Seemed to run well so we/I went with it.

Bipod stud. Stock was ordered that way from Mcmillan. Cst supplied stock so it was his wish. Time will tell I guess on how she runs. I did all the testing off a Sinclair rest/bag.

    Re: The NEXT 50 build.

Just stumbled across the post and all I can say is DANG! That is one awesome build. Thanks for sharing in detail this build and just wanted to say that you are in deed one talented son of a gun. Thanks for sharing.

    Re: The NEXT 50 build.

Your going to have to stop posting these. Eventually I'll have to buy something and then my wife will get mad and beat me with it. What did I ever do to you? Seriously though, I know how hard it is to get that smooth a coating when you bedding. It shows some serious skill and patience.

    Re: The NEXT 50 build.

My God.....Ive been contemplating doing my own bedding job on my new build.

After seeing that job I'm embarrassed to even think about it.

That is one of the cleanest jobs Ive ever seen.

Whats the freebore length on the reamer so the factory 750Amax's are .030" off lands?

Im building a 50 a lot like this in 3 months. Mcmillan repeater action, Lilja Navy contour barrel(not fluted though)... and the customer will be shooting the Hornady factory 750s through it.

PTG has a reamer with .130 freebore length ready for me to buy

    Nice work Chad.

Guess I'll just buy the ammo and see for myself
