Re: The Real Deal

John they usually allow a few of the NG guys in the class for free. Is that what they're shooting now? Looks a lot better than the beat to hell M24's they usually bring, lol...

You guys have had some spectacular weather this week. Better bring a snorkel for the long stalk Thursday, I'm trying to get free so I can make it down and be one of the walkers that day.

Re: The Real Deal

This is NOT my rifle and I am not even the one driving it. It's issued to one of the other students in the class.

There are two National Guard Soldiers in the class I am attending and they both brought brand new, never fired M110's. They brought the whole kit in the hardcase, including suppressors although they have not pulled out the suppressors yet.

ker2222....it's not a vortex. It's just an oversized birdcage looking deal. The true flash suppressor is the silencer it comes with.

They are shooting OK. There were some feeding issues, but talking to the guys it appears to be a bad magazine.

It makes me really want to get my AR10 done.

Awesome!

Yea, the weather has been a bit on the damp side. It makes it hard to keep good databook records. Then again, I will take all the rain I can get for stalking. If I am going to be wet, might as well make it work for me.

I have a 16" SASS that I go back and forth on wheather or not to use an A2 or something more adjustable. The A2 seems to work with really low mounts, but anything with more than a 40mm objective gets too high for me.
What do you do?

One word of advice for the stalks if the dampness keeps up (if you haven't already figured it out): ANTI-FOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't had much of a problem with the SN-3 fogging. Since I don't have a sunshade on it, I get some water on the objective. When it gets too much I blow it off. It fogs, but by the time we walk downrange and back it's cleared off.

On the last stalk when I pulled the rifle out of the soaking wet drag bag the lenses were fogged, but they cleared up by the time I got my firing position setup.

The biggest problem the rain has caused (on the 700) was rust on my trigger group. I pulled the action out of the stock last night and found that my bolt release and safety had a good deal of rust. I hit them both with some Militec and wiped them down. Hopefully that will drive off the rust for the rest of the week. I am definitely going to glass bed this rifle to try to keep some of that water out of the stock.

It was in to 40*'s and drizzling when I completed the stalks during that school. I worked up a pretty good sweat stalking in and when I got into my FFP and popped the caps on the scope the heat from my face fogged the ocular horribly. Everything I had was soaking wet (actually swam a little during the stalk) so I had nothing to wipe it with lesson learned). 45 minutes later the ocular still wasn't clear. Hopefully you will have a little better weather next week.
