Saw this show when I was younger and it is now on the MeTV channel. During the opening of the show the Rifleman walks down a street firing his rifle' now this was a 44-40 and I counted 13 shots before he reloads. Is that possible or Hollywood?

How did you determine that the caliber was 44-40? Typical lever action tubular mag capacity is 9-13 shots. I guess Chuck had one of the 13 shot ones.

Well, the .44-40 was the standard round designed for the Winchester 1873 rifle.....which is what The Rifleman carried.....it is possible that he had a lesser chambered .38-40.....

Who cares how many rounds he fires in the sign on vs reality?? Lucas McCain is a bad mamma jamma! The Rifleman is my all time favorite Western TV show.

Love that show and watch the reruns every day! Can't tell you how many times I have seen one episode, but who counts! Gunsmoke also! Better than that crap they have on now!

Update: Just watched the show sign on and thought I counted 12 shots. They were so fast it was hard to keep, track of them:)

What a great way to start a Saturday morning!
