Well I acquired a Savage 110 model J in 243 for a song.
It has the standard 24" barrel, laminated stock and simple bolt handle.
I am wanting to build a compact varmint/deer rifle keeping it in 243. So I contacted McGowan barrels and got a nice quote for Chrome molly Heavy barrel 18" long, fluted with a recessed 11* crown. I also want to change from the blind magazine to a detachable mag. Will also have the bolt fluted and tactical bolt handle installed. As for the finish it will be parkerized green/grey.
I will keep the stock and more than likely skeletonize the stock and shorten the forearm and reshape to a schnobled forearm. This should reduce the 5+ pound stock by half at least. I would venture to say it should be sub MOA gun when done.
