The 1977 Ford F-150 & 66 yr young old man are still getting it done. I passed up a 3 foot diameter Tamerack that had recently died, and I guessed very heavy... and this Douglas-fir tree was perfectly seasoned. I used the 440 magnum and 044. My back is complaining.😆 Maybe next time I'll take out the 036 and 38 Super.

This weekend the woods will be full of drunks with rifles... opening of modern firearm deer season. It's so damn dry and so few animals, that I probably won't take a rifle for a walk.

And another load yesterday...

440 is my favorite saw ❤️

My favorite saw too!
When I logged I started with an 064 then a Husky 288 then an 044 (predecessor to the 440 magnum) and the Husky bug bit me again and I bought a 272. A guy who logged in Idaho (much later) told me they never made a 272. I have proof cuz I bought one. Good saw by the way.

I always liked the 044/440, but since the price on used clean saws is crazy high, I bought a 462. In my opinion, it should have been the 442. It's a great saw, but I dont think it has the stones to be the 461's replacement.

I think the 462 has a chance to make it to legacy saw status like the 044/440's have. Especially if you can get a standard carb model. They may be available stateside now. I know the 661 is.

My mtronic has never given me a minutes trouble, but I'm a sucker for old low tech stuff that just works.

Me either. I have had several Mtronic saws and they are great. I sold my 241C and 362C but have a 261C I love and use more than anything.

I finished the stacking just now. No rounds to split and no splits to stack 😅

Only troubles I've had was my fault. Gas that was too old trying to run at 10,000ft. Working to try to clean up the old Camp Steiner scout camp for the new leasee. Wife used to work there many years ago, 05-06 ish.

There is a reset procedure some people have had to do in high elevations. I don’t remember the specifics but it works according to guys on Arborsite.

Also (for posterity) you're not supposed to just shut em off after running them hard in a cut, you let em idle for 15 seconds or they won’t want to start back up as they will go to sleep thinking you’re still “on it”.

The thing I like is they always seem to be perfectly tuned. I can rip small stuff without much load and it tunes itself and then I can stick it in a 20” oak and in a micro second it retunes to perfection again. Great for my 261 cause that is just how I use it, as a generalist.

The 440 is for bucking and a some felling so it is always buried.

*eventually* I am going to buy a 500i which weighs what the 440 does but has a good bit more powuh…

I felled 2 trees for my neighbor a couple of weeks ago, along his fence line. I told him where I was going to lay them …. Right next to posts, I mean within 10” of the fence. Bam, perfect 🤩 I am now the “tree fellingist fawker on the mountain” according to him 😂

I used his saw, one of the fabled 372 Huskys. I honestly wasn’t blown away. Dang thing is all orange which is just wrong to start with….creamsicle saws rule!

Tried the high altitude thing of how to reset it when I was having issues. Didnt work because of the old gas. Could not get the thing to start and had issues with it dying whenever I gave it any gas. Worked great once I got new gas in it at home, 4200ft elevation.

Living the dream 🍻
Let's see more of the dentside. 2wd?
I think a Detroit locker in a 2wd Ford, ideally with a 300i6 is about all ya need unless you're just looking for trouble.

So my buddy who deals with military surplus picked up this Cadillac Bin from Fort Riley.

I bought it from him to store my firewood in.

Had to build an additional roof for it, as it wouldn't last long with 4-1/2 feet of snow sitting on top of it during the Winter.

I kept some firewood in a storage box intended for a couple of the big rolling trash cans for awhile and I had a problem with the wood getting moldy if I remember right, because it was closed off on all sides. I built a miniature lean-to for the wood, for air flow, and it’s been much better.
Do you have some way to circulate air in that container? It looks nice.
