Re: THERMAL IMAGING - ANNEALING

Very cool video. Its neat to see how it looks through the thermal imager. I think you guys aren't getting those brass pieces hot enough, from my understanding the neck needs to exceed 700 degrees to properly anneal within a few seconds. 500 degrees takes a few hours to have the same brass reformation effect and unfortunately would anneal the primer pocket as well!

Were you guys doing something else to get to proper anneal temps?

Re: THERMAL IMAGING - ANNEALING

Is that Fluke imager maxing out? I saw it give a reading of '>505' a couple times, but never read anything higher than that. Granted the cases don't seem to be staying in the flame very long, but from the looks of 'em the cases appear pretty well annealed. As mentioned, I was under the impression it took somewhat more than 400-500F at the neck to get those results... and I know the 500°F Tempilaq I have would have dang sure smoked almost instantaneously with that kind of flame on it.

Any way to mount that imager on a tripod for steadier viewing, and/or record some still images that can be exported as jpegs for general consumption?

Thanks,

Monte

Re: THERMAL IMAGING - ANNEALING

No tripod mount - that was the first thing I looked for. I'll talk to Todd since he is the one with the info on it. Everything I have found since you asked shows max at 600C which far exceeds 505F.

Re: THERMAL IMAGING - ANNEALING

My experience is with a different brand of instrument, and nearly a decade out of date... but sometimes we ran into problems when trying to observe things that straddled the ranges of the instrument. Maybe the '>505F' reading indicates that it needs to be switched to a higher range to accurately read the higher temps?
