Recommendation for a Thermal Night Vision Scope that can be used hand held or mounted on a weapon (Dual Purpose Application).

The use is to identify vermin on my property at nite up to 500 yards, and to locate my dogs who might be chasing these critters, and reluctant to return home immediately when called. This way I know where to look, and I can approach them for a call in signal.
Thanks for your patience and recommendations.

Not sure of your budget but the LWTS is hard to beat. Some members are looking to sell OASYS which would also be hard to beat.

The Trijicon IR Patrol M300W is a nice little unit. If you want a little more juice I've used the REAP IR as a scanner as well as a weapon sight. You can PM me for details etc.

And military type units generally have the high cost end of the market ... OASYS units are available to civilians if you look hard ... buying a used one could be done, if the transaction goes back through the original dealer ...

I have been using the Leupold LTO, I have been able to see people past 200 yards, vehicles past 600 yards and Aircraft against the night sky beyond 6 or 8 miles. +/-

I have a trijicon ATWS T-60 for sale if interested. EXCELLENT scope. I bought it for surveillance. It's never been on a rifle and fired. Has the LaRue quick mount. Very crisp & clear optic. Not for the faint of heart when it comes to the price. 640 resolution. email me if you're interested. reggie-at-flotest-dotcom. I haven't been on this forum in a very long time. I'm not even sure if it's ok to post for sale here. If not, please let me know.

I have used and had many from pulsar. right now I have the apex xq50 and I am flat blown away by the performance, range and id capability of it. deer at 1000yd no problem. yotes to 600 with ease. for the money I just don't think theres a better weapon mounted thermal right now. if you don't need the onboard recording and hardrive/wifi stuff this is the ticket.

I have used an OASYS unnit before, and it was obviously top notch... just couldn't see paying what the guy told me they cost. how effective are these cheaper unit like Pulsars for shooting pigs and coons at night? say 100-300 yards away? I don't need a top tier unit to go blast critters, but $3,000 is still a lot of money

The lowest end pulsars or the new flir boson 19mm with the fixed focus leave a bit to be desired at distances beyond about 100yds ...

The "mid range" pulsars with the focus rings work great for pigs, yotes, coons, etc.

For a $3000 budget you would be better off buying one of the $2000 Raptors and $1000 PEQ2s floating around. If you want to shoot coons at 300. The high power illuminators really light up eyes and make it easy to locate animals

You can find a Oasys for mid 3s- low 4000. With ir & visible
