Hey look anyone that's ever humped a ruck or been on their feet all day knows that good boots and good socks are essential.

I just started wearing these socks made by Point6...oh man...I'm not kidding it was magic.

I've worn all kinds of socks and not really paid to much attention to them other than wearing some waterproof ones as needed.

I didn't wear them on the first day of Shot Show and my dogs were barking...I wore the sample I got at Shot and it was a home run. No hot spots...no aches...and my feet weren't sweating so much.

the Thorlos I wore back in the day (circa 1996-2000) were great. I don't know what their current product looks like. Based off of the ones I wore I would pick these new ones over the Thorlo...the Thorlo I used were thick and these aren't sometimes I would wear a Gortex sock or a Sealskin sock for water stuff...it was always crowded in there...These socks are thinner.

I'm telling you these are magic socks...like heated leather car seats in the winter time...

My understanding is Point 6 is the original owners of Smartwool. The product is probably as high quality but they don't look to have as many product lines. I currently use Smartwool and REI (Fartsniffer) brand and like both.

The best socks for me are Dahlgren Alpaca. Ive worn them for a couple days at a time with no problems. I can't wear wool. I find the alpaca does not itch like wool does - even smartwool or merino wool. Thorlos make my feet sweat like all synthetic socks. I think wool, for those would can wear it, or alpaca is much better because it is absorbent and does not cause sweating.

I've been wearing Smartwool for a pretty long time, had three pairs that have lasted through some 8-12 milers and 25 mile humps. Over time though they tend to lose their "fluffiness" so i've been wearing dress socks under them, works every time. They've been great as far as warmth during the winter and keeping my feet dry.

I'll definitely be taking a closer look at Point6 though.

Smartwools have gone downhill. The price went up and the quality went down. If you have an older set of socks compare them to a current set.....you will find that they are shorter....less material per sock and seem to be thinner.

I will definately check out the Point6 as I am disatisfied with the current Smartwool offerings. A local shop quit carrying them due to the complaints. He mainly serves local construction, National Guard and working type people that rely on their "stuff". He mainly carries Carhart, Woolrich, LaCrosse, and Filson.

I went through several brands of socks. I have to wear steel toed boots at work and on concrete all day.

Used Filson, Smartwool and ended up Woolrich. The Filson were good socks but $25 a pair. Smartwool did good, but would wear holes and at $20 a pair it was too expensive.

Been using the Woolrich heavy weight socks from Walmart. About $8 a pair. Work well, stays comfortable and thick. Bad thing is they only sells them during hunting season. So if you like them stock up with a few pairs to get through the year.

I'm a Mechanic to and wear steel toe boots everywhere up down and around engines and skids.

I got turned on to the socks that Snap-On Makes (or has them made)
If you ever get the chance they are some good socks too. I think they were $6 a pair when I last bought some.
Website shows $7 a pair.
Snap-On Socks
Good cushion to them, and not so thick that you sweat to death in them during the summer.
If your on the tool truck snag a pair.

Im in the same field and these socks are amazing. Those plus redwing boots make life on concrete all day a lot better. The first time you wear them there a lil stiff but after a couple washings they are great.

Bridgedale is the best sock I ever used. Dries quickly over night on my chest, do not lose shape after a week(s) of everyday use, last and last.

Rohnor is the best sock on the market but hard to find and cost twice as much.

Lorpen are in the top three.

Thor-Lo is my winter boot sock, had great luck.

Never had good success with Smartwool, do not dry in the field due to 100% wool, lose their shape by stretching and cause hot spots and blisters and rolls under the foot, wore out very quickly in the heel.

+1 if i had to pick one brand based on personal experience, it would be bridgedale. when I know i'll be spending the day on my feet doing heavy activity, these are the socks i grab. not sure if all bridgedales are like this, but the sets that I have are designed with extra padding on the hot spots of the sole and ankle. the best thing is that they give me all the needed cushion of a wool sock, but are much thinner and work great when combined with sealskinz.
