im a .308 guy but i like working with one gun because i dont have the cash to put good glass on 3 different guns. im running a nf 2.5x10x42 mrad mostly hunting but i do alot of target shooting. im shooting a sps aac 20inch .308 mcmillian stock with can and jewell trigger the gun is a tack driver. but im thinking of going to 700 ti lighter hunting set up. 30-06 and maybe have it rebarreld with a 1/11 twist and chambered to 30-06ai if it's worth it. so i can still run light loads 155 scenars and under for varmints and target. and up to 208 amax for long range targets 1300+ and large game.

im looking at it as most have said i could run closer to (i know not equal but closer) 300 mag performance with the ai and also do all the stuff .308 can do. and the bullet selection and powder is the main thing in this day ad age. i can run everything from varget 4350 rl22 4831sc etc and more. and ease of componets and stock ammo in stores and thats the big selling point to me. being a avid reloader. or should i just stay wih my good old .308

You really don't need to go ai to get to 300wm velocities. There's a member here that pushes his 06 to 2900+ fps. Long ass barrel though, but still impressive. And that's with either 190's or 208's. There's a couple good threads on here on the 06 you can do a search on.

yep i read some of those threads and it got me thinking. thats the deal i dont want a 26-30 inch heavy barrel. 24 inch threaded so if i do use a can. i have a 243 ai and i reload everything. so even if the results are minimal it does not bother me. i want it handy and somewhat light. dont want a pencil barrel but dont want a mtu either. in a mcmillian hunters edge stock. i posted last week about and almost bought a kimber mountain 30-06 but they wanted $2k for it. and for that i can do a custom build. i can tear a remington apart and know em inside and out and get parts easily. so that why im looking at a 700 ti.

I'm getting 2850 FPS using 190s from a 22 inch 1/10 Rock. I think I could push a tad bit more but there is really not much to gain by doing that, maybe I would lose some accuracy. I say go for it, brass is cheap I can find 19s0 about anytime I look around for them on the net and barrel life is a lot longer than a WM. It's so versatile that I can always find a powder that will work with it.
