Thinking about my first prescion rifle....

As you can gather from the title, I am thinking about jumping into the precision rifle group.

I am fairly new to guns, just picking up handguns 2 ½ years ago, and I bought my first rifle (AR-15) about 6 months ago. I enjoy shooting IPSC and Tactical 3 gun. I am thinking I might also enjoy some precision long range stuff.

My home range is 300 meters, so the majority (99%) of this gun’s use would be within that range. If I acquire it, I do plan to take a 3 day precision rifle course, and that range will be out to 1,000 yards. But that will be the exception because that range and the 600 yard range are about 2 hours from me, so they would be rarely visited.

I am not a hunter and never plan to be, so this is just a paper puncher / gong ringer.

Since I am still new to this, just wanted to check in and see your thoughts on what I am thinking about picking up. I have a friend who owns this rifle. He is thinking of parting with it. Had 80 rounds down the pipe until yesterday when I put 20 through it and upped that number to 100. I liked it. Scope would need to be adjusted for my body and eye relief, but other than that, it was fun.

Anything on the below spec I should be leery of? Pretty sure it is all top notch stuff, but it is always nice to hear opinions.

Remington 700 LTR .308
Timney trigger
Badger Ordnance 20 MOA base
Badger Ordnance Rings
Tactical bolt
Leupold Optic Mark 4 LR/T 6.5 -20 x 50 TMR illuminated Reticle
Harris BRM-S swivel bipod w/ podloc
Inletted Badger Ordnance A.I. Magazine conversion (includes one a A.I. 5rd mag)
A.I spare mags - x2 10rds x1 5 rd
SKD Cheek pad with built in bean bag

For a starter package in long range shooting, I would be all over that. Those are some pretty nice components and you will have no trouble unloading those if you decide that long range shooting is not for you. I doubt that you will find that to be true, but who knows. Welcome to the addiction.
