Around here I can get .223 and most handgun calibers pretty cheap and I don't have a lot of spare time on my hands to reload a lot of ammo. But I'm considering reloading my higher caliber stuff (.454 Casull, .308, and .50), due to how much it's costing me to practice. What all would I need to reload those 3 calibers as far as equipment goes? Also, would there be much of a difference in price to set myself up to be able to reload all calibers, rather then just those 3? Thanks.

Re: Thinking about Reloading

First thing to buy, Lyman's Centerfire Handloading Manual. I believe 49th is the latest edition. Read everything EXCEPT the caliber specific chapters. That will answer a lot of your questions.

But if you're pushed for time, it's a good way to remove the roof of your house. Not paying attention, being sleepy or in a hurry when you're messing with propellant powders and primers is a good way to burn the house down.

Read BOOKS. Not just what you Google on the internet.

+1 on Victors post,..

My reloading is my Meditation....even the wife doesn't bother me while the press is uncovered and the brass is on the bench .

You can see by the chamber pressures the calibers make that this is not to be entered into lightly or done haphazardly

from your post you will need 2 presses one for .50 and one for everything else..

Reloading is like the force it is a good thing but has a dark side,.. rush the job and you get no powder and a stuck bullet or 2X powder and no gun left with the possibility of a hospital trip

Enjoy your new hobby,...safely

Get into but be safe about it... you cant be too anal when it comes to safety.

In regards to equipment make sure you get stuff that is .50BMG compatible AND can do everything else you want as well.

You will find there are alot of specific bits of equipment out there designed witht he 50 in mind. Last thing you want to do is realise you just purchased a nice new case trimmer that doesnt fit a .50bmg case in it.
