Suppressors Thinnest 1911 grips?

Re: Thinnest 1911 grips?

I use thin grips on both my 1911's and have had any number of sets. They all seem to be very similar. That said, the stock slim grips off my Les Baer TRS seem even thinner than most.

You were referring to grips that use the "thin grip" grip screw bushings, weren't you?

Larry Davidson makes some.

Esmeralda has some.

CSS supplies them.

PS: Normally if you want to try the thinner grips you need the smaller bushings and screws. It is advisable to get a set that support the plunger tube ... (so "the" thinnest may not be what you really desire). </div></div>

I should have cleared that up. I'm hoping to use the factory standard bushings as they are staked and I wasnt aware that the grips actualy help support the plunger tube..

As to the plunger tube, Larry Vickers once said, "The plunger tube was made to be held on by the grips, but with the many different sorts of grips on the market now, you can't count on that. There are only two little legs that hold it on there. If the plunger tube comes loose, it can pop over your safety and keep you from taking the safety off. That can get you killed."

I would probably contact Davidson - above - as he knows all the ins and outs and can probably make you a set that will fit the factory bushings and still support the pt. If not, it is no problem for a good smith to redo the bushings ...

Re: Thinnest 1911 grips?

I'm going to make some rather thin grips when I get set up - I've been dilly dallying around but I have a lot of wood ready to be carved into grips, including Madrona - which is a very hard wood...

IF you don't find a solution let me know, I'll make them as thin as you want.

I could do a set in 1/8th aluminum as well but they'd be rather flat since I don't have a milling operation...

Re: Thinnest 1911 grips?

Definitely give Larry Davidson a call. He has a lot more flavors than he lists on his site and can even do something custom if you ask nicely. If you want to stay with the standard bushing stay with the standard grips. Below is an example of his work on my Springfield Loaded. One heck of a nice guy. Just don't buy his grips from anyone but Larry himself. You will get a better deal and better support.

Re: Thinnest 1911 grips?

Chip McCormick makes thin grips ... "Soldier of Fortune" magazine did an article in the early 80s on concealing a full-size .45 . They removed the bushings and had no stocks ( grips) . They used a Milt Sparks 'Summer Comfort' holster ... My spin is to get one of the thin suede belt-clip holsters . Wear it over your underwear with a web-belt . Wear your shirt-tails over it , tucked-in . Slow , but very concealed . Anything you do is a trade-off ...
