Renovating a buddy of mine’s match rifle. Doing a rebarrel and his A5 has a couple dings and color looked a little tired.

So I patched the dings.

Then I fixed him up with a nice 5 color flecktarn.

When I finish his rebarrel I’ll post some pics and maybe some groups.

What do you guys think for the barreled action? Black, patriot brown, or coyote tan? Those are all present in the stock. I’m leaning black.

Finally out to the range today. Shot about 20 of his old loads during his break in. Everything was under a minute and began to tighten up nicely toward the end. With some load development and a few more rounds down the tube he’ll have a hammer.

Little update on this rifle. My buddy was having trouble with flyers on it, so I had him send it back to me. I increased the bolt nose clearance about .003” because his was only about .007” assembled. I also recut the crown and did a full bedding job on it. My groups during load development were very encouraging. Left group is .010” off the lands and right is .015” off. These are 5 shot groups off a bipod and rear bag.

Just got this pic back after returning it to him. He’s already taken it out to 1000 yards and is very happy with it. It’s very rewarding to see somebody else putting your craft to work.
