But it seems it needs to be put out to protect others. Some of the old timers here may not be surprised.

Over the last few months, we at PRE have been dealing with the personal struggles of Pete Petersen (aka Shaggy). Wil and I have spent that time trying to help someone we thought we knew well through what appeared to be a severe struggle with PTSD and alcoholism. In the course of helping this person get back on his feet, we discovered that he's been lying to all of us, about everything.

As far as we've been able to confirm in the last two weeks (and now by his own admission), Pete's "career" since at least 2005 is entirely fiction. To most of us, Pete's portrayed himself as a SWAT Sniper for various Police Departments & Sheriffs Departments in Texas and recently as a member of the Louisiana State Attorney General's office investigating child pornography and other sex crimes. To others, we're now learning he's claimed to have been an Army Ranger Sniper, or a Scout Sniper with 3/2 Marines. He's also claimed to have worked for Blackwater as a DDM/Sniper at some point between 2004-2007.

To put it bluntly, none of that is true. We have now been able to confirm, and he has admitted (in recorded phone call) to the following: He has never been on any SWAT team, he has never served a day in any military service. He has never worked for Blackwater in any capacity. He has never worked for the state of Louisiana in any capacity. He worked as a part time dispatcher for UT Arlington's PD for a period of 5 months before a very short stint as a police officer in the DFW area. Since 2005, Pete's worked for Dell computers as a sales associate until recently, when he moved to New Orleans where he currently works as an IT associate for PoolCorp, a national swimming pool supply company, located in Covington, LA.

To be clear, Pete has never been in control of the financial/business side of PRE, and he has not had an active role beyond contributing a few facebook posts since February of this year. Wil and I are both committed to the success of PRE and will continue putting every bit of energy into it's continued success.

Pete has lied to all of us, and to a large part of the firearms industry. Wil and I are incredibly angry and are actively pursuing every legal avenue available to ensure he does not do this again. We're posting this publicly, and tagging each of you so that we can ensure you're fully aware of what's transpired in the last few weeks and to ensure Pete is never able to step foot in the firearms industry again.

HA! I called it on this dude way back when. Must've been at least 5-6 years ago when he was posting his bullshit stories about his police involved shootings and I knew something wasn't right about him. It took this long but I'm glad that I was proven right.

    Where was he posting these?

Dude this was years ago and he was posting it here on the Hide. Bear Pit if I remember correctly because this was before the LE/Mil section. His stories always struck me kind of odd in the sense that he wasn't saying the right things or using the correct vernacular if you will. Just got the feeling that he was full of shit.

Copy, took a look at his posts and noticed that myself.

He had a hand in getting snipercompany up and running as well as their forum. Seems as though he had them duped as well. I thought he was a decent guy and talked with him a few times. Guess you just never know about people. He tarnished the name of a few good people trying to make it in this business. I fell for some of the shit he spewed.
If I am not mistaken he was banned from here a few years ago and did not have much good to say about this particular site. When snipercompany fell apart I ventured over here and have to say his accounts were all incorrect.

Has his privileges in the Mil/LEO section have been removed? If not they probably should be...

As a psychologist, I can tell you this kind of thing is pretty common. There is nearly a 100% chance this person suffered not severe, but moderate abuse as a youngster. It just so happens his fantasies involved the shooting discipline. I have had patients with similar symptoms in all sorts of arenas. His friends and family should be supportive but not enabling. A large component of substance abuse is a lack of integrity and lack of self esteem. For whatever reason, he feels his life choices have left him labeled as an underachiever and as a result, he has attempted to create a reality by trying to convince others of his accomplishments. None the less, he should seek intensive treatment and expect the road to recovery to be long. Not that everyone didn't already know that.

Well............nowadays with everyone dressing in camo.....playing army...... imitating snipers...... most having never served.... one could expect this.....and a lot more "Nam" stories....... Having served during the 60`s....when the B.S. flows...... seems like I`m the only one who never got over there....

Very true and sometimes it is very hard for friends and family members to say anything. We can know the person is fibbing, but you just go with the flow to keep everybody happy!!!!!

...he was way too happy to brag about his military/police experience.

    If you have to brag...

I don't get this shit honestly It's fuckin 2014, not 1985. If you think you can run in certain circles long enough on a bullshit back stories and not expect to get caught by Google or some other form of internet and research then you're either an Evader of Natural Selection or drunk on delusions of hero worship and still a retard. If you have to make up Valor to get accepted by those around you... just sayin.

You ever consider the opposite and that someone can be spoiled/entitled and when they're unable to get what they want and how they want it they instead resort to manipulation of those around them? Is it obviously a self esteem issue... yes, but the go to of "poor little Johnny must have been abused" is like assuming every hyper kid must have ADHD.

Your point is certainly possible but research says an entitled type lifestyle leads to narcissism more often than dissociative symptoms. This is not speculation or a guess, it is guaranteed this guy was abused. Since he has enough symptoms to be diagnosable, we would give him at least a 3 tier axis diagnosis. Also, a hyper child has to meet very specific criteria to be labeled ADHD. There can be two children equally hyper but if one child's life is effected to a degree that the hyperactivity causes serous life stressors, then we can go ahead and diagnose it ADHD while the other child may not meet ADHD criteria due to differences in several life factors. Also, your argument has a faulty assumption in that, just because it is common does not make each instance less severe when each person is an individual. There is no dilution of stressors because "everyone" has them.

Sorry to hear and it's unfortunate that people are more interested in living a fantasy life than taking self worth in what they actually do. Don't waste time in discrediting him, he's obviously not worth the effort.

As a pathological lying professional bullshit artist, I can tell you that the tangled web that Pete wove is nothing compared the tales that I've told... I am both entitled and abused, narcissistic and manipulative, an underachiever and clinically diagnosable... I am so hyperactive and dissociative that there are not enough tiers to provide an accurate diagnosis or label... I love the movie Fantasia, and the singer as well... Yet, I served as a Navy Seal Sniper conducting VBSS overwatch support, served in Fallujah, Iraq and Jalalabad, Afghanistan with Army Airborne Rangers and 3/2 Marine Div as operational tactical target interdiction sniper, was employed and deployed as an operator with Tier 1 Group, and committed multiple sex crimes with pornographic movies (the actual DVDs)... Currently, I am a LEO and SWAT Sniper with the Piscataquis County Sherrifs Department... And I am seeking a job as the Chief of Financial Operations (CFO) for Precision Rifle Enthusiast (PRE)... Please consider my resume and perhaps some of you would be kind enough to write letters of recommendation... Thanks, Obama!

For a Psychologist you'd think you would have understood a simple analogy in comparison to the diagnosis of ADHD and how it's stereotypically OVER-diagnosed, but instead you're now over-exerting yourself with medical vernacular in order to somehow impress either me or whoever is reading it at the moment, lol... Like many Psychologists I've met you should probably do a self-analysis every once in awhile before rushing off to analyze everyone else including an online persona such as the current circumstance.

I'm also not the one making assumptions as I presented it as another possibility unlike you who are now stating a diagnosis based upon statistics and evidence which is of extremely limited empirical knowledge of the PT but instead simply based upon the statements of others.

Nope... I'm married to a psychology graduate and annoyed that guys like him want to explain away and make justification for someone else's poor behavior. It's a major problem with society wanting someone to blame other than simply the person who committed the act.

It seems you've grossly misunderstood Ryguy's point. He wasn't excusing the poor behaviour, he was explaining a possible cause of it in response to people's questions of 'why do this [bullshit]?'

Being a psychology grad and a practicing psychologist is not a peer to peer scenario much less than being married to a psychology grad...

Furthermore, your simple analogy was wrong as illustrated by Ryguy's detailed answer. It's not necessarily nonsense just because you can't make sense of it.

I understand exactly what he was trying to say in regards to ADHD. But, if either of you understood what my originally analogy meant then you would have realized that his explanation was unnecessary to begin with, and not wrong, but simply misunderstood by those who want to play internet doctor and explain the diagnosis of a stereotype to justify an action that I never actually said needed justification. Keep assuming away though... I already know you will anyways.

So, you mean if I get married to a neurosurgeon, I'll basically be one? I can go head to head with a neurosurgeon about all things related. Wow!

Now I just gotta convince one...

What's your take on -Nick- LMAO... Common Nick....

Try an argument without ad hominem attacks. People will take you more serious. Anyone that has taken high school psychology can tell you what an axis diagnosis is, so I'm sorry you missed that. Lets work on your feelings on inferiority relating to your evidenced lack of intelligence. Start with focusing on being the best you can be rather than comparing yourself to others or living vicariously through your spouse. Time is up for today. Next week we will see how you did and start on your sexual disfunction.

So I'm not allowed to have an opinion of other peoples actions based upon my own experiences with others in that profession? I never said I was and/or am a subject expert based upon it...

Yup that's it. I have an inferiority complex and I'm obviously retarded with impotency issues... So when you look in the mirror do you always see a hypocrite or are you too busy coming up with witty comments such as the above which I find remarkable for such a professional in your industry?

I remember Shaggy, I recall seeing the name a lot but never attributed anything to him or saw (or at least remember) any of his stories. This is far from new around here and there are still lots of people claiming to be SEALs and shit on here, i.e. the guy that changed his name every time he got busted but posted pics of his stupid guns all of which had punisher stickers/symbols on them.

Before anyone here hurts themselves, especially Nick, call the hotline. I'd intervene but I'm too busy being a lawyer since my wife is a prosecutor and all.

Lol... I like how you're still trying to spin a point about something I never said to be. Let me know when you can come up with something that's actually creative.

This kind of shit makes me sick. All the real heros out there struggling alone and this Guy is faking to get attention. Get him by the balls maggot, he deserves a public lashing.

I mean look at the guys picture….. he obviously isn't quite right. I recall some of the stories he told on here. Guy might need serious help if he has kept up this elaborate act for 6+ years.

Too bad: It's disappointing, but it doesn't make me upset.

The real value of the Internet is that it enables people to meet each other in person to share a common pastime or interest.

There's no substitute for getting to know people in person in the real world instead of the virtual one.

Perhaps the lesson for the rest of us who didn't know him is that if we don't get to know the people we associate with online then we are probably doing it wrong.

    Gunfighter: Yes. That's him.

I could never understand this "syndrome". I've run into a few guys like this before. False memories, and just plain bullshit. Interesting, but also extremely frustrating. But wow! I just noticed that they're all from East Texas and Louisiana. No fucking joke. Something in the water?

    This was disappointing to learn

Wanting to fit in within a group is a normal need. Making-up and stating materially factual things that one knows are absolutely untrue is probably pathological.

I am not a psychologist, but I look at it on a sliding scale of mental survival mechanisms: Lying to oneself is human nature. That some people take these kinds of lies to extremes, spread them publicly, and eventually fail at unfucking themselves from their own bullshit probably rises to the level of a sickness.

But everyone exaggerates a little bit now and then. I'm not apologizing for anyone, and this doesn't apply to the individual being discussed, but people who have done serious undercover work will tell you that it is possible to get to a point where you are not sure anymore of who you really are. The work changes you because it takes a mental toll.

The truth is that the line between fact and perspective, embellishment and outright falsehood, is probably not always a clear one in the mind of any individual at any given time. This can be especially true if your job involves socially-permissible lying: What I call 'lying for a living' (there's a lawyer joke in there somewhere).

It's also a maturity issue: For years when I was younger I wanted to be more than I was. Then I signed-up to do so-called 'cool' things, but quickly realized that my time was not my own, that shit that I thought was cool gets old real quick, and that when I was doing these things I really wanted to be doing something else somewhere else. To add insult to this reality-check I also found out that what I thought was cool many other people had already grown out of ever wanting to do, or do again.

That's just my experience. Yours may not dovetail. My point was to respond to the post above, that it might not be a 'syndrome', but a matter of degree instead of a bright line.

    A) Most people who brag about their bad assery are full of shit.
    B) People who pop off about firefights to strangers are full of shit.
    C) Look at the guy in the picture. Nothing about him even remotely hints at doing any kind of anything on the LE/MIL side of things.

Yep. I used to talk to him on the phone here and there. Until I found out he was lying to me about something. Confronted him about it, and gave him a chance to man up and tell me the truth. He didn't.

    PNG'D.

Best story he told me was about being present at the Ft. Hood shooting. Was texting me while he was on 'overwatch'. Guess he had lots of free time during that one xD

It's disappointing to see this thread spiral into online dick-measuring...

We're all human beings, and all fked up to some degree.
What I know is that I'm a guy that spent half my life seriously messed up and it almost killed me. I've met Pete and reached out to him a couple months ago.
I'm not gonna try to diagnose him, and it is very jacked up he tangled the web he did. As someone that doesn't have any more invested than an interest in seeing another fked up person pull their head out without eating a gun I truly hope this (if its all true) is a bottom that can make him see he needs help. It is definitely a point in his life that could help him or kill him. I for one have felt the incomprehensible demoralization a life of lying to one's self brings and I lied plenty to others. Mine weren't lies of stolen valor, but lies that I was a good employee, a good dad, a good husband and a good friend...
I hope he doesn't die and can pull himself back from whatever demons are behind his front. If he does, and I pray for him as I would any sick person that he does, he can clean house later and take whatever lumps he must. I can guarantee he's not sitting back chuckling about getting one over on anyone or everyone, I just hope he's not crawling in a bottle or eating a gun over it.

And of course, all that's contingent on everything we read off a Facebook post is true.....

SB, Ive spoken with one of the guys who knew him really well and it's, unfortunately, true.

What I find sad is from a lesson I learned some 40 years ago. I was in much your shape and a friend said to me, "Its not what you do but how well you do it. If your a lawyer (he was), or a plumber, or a ditch digger, be the best you can be. That's all that's expected of you and if you do that, most will respect you and the ones that don't, don't count." Helped me through a tough time.

    Hope he pulls through.
