Re: thoughts on Bushnell 4200 elite tactical

Got one and love it. Im fairly sure its MilMil but dont hold me on it. Super clear glass and my only complaint was that the Hz Adjust Knob doest 100% line up but its only by a fraction.

Glass is clear, Illum Reticule is good and turrets are nice and easy to use.

Havent shot it yet but on the surface it's a nice, well made scope.

The FFP ones are mil-mil. I think the HNIC of this website was going to do a review of one but he didn't have the time. When they first came out they were 769 for the 3-12 and 8? for the 6-24, now they are a hundred or so dollars more. 4200 glass is good glass, the only problem I see is that they don't have lots of adjustment.

I'm not an expert or anything, but I like mine and nobdy else that has looked through it was disappointed. 20 MOA rail should take care of the lack of adjustment. I got mine without the illum. reticle for $585 new. great scope for the $

Re: thoughts on Bushnell 4200 elite tactical

can you reach 1000yds with that amount of adjustment and a 20moa base?
whats there is the same part number but one ends in a 426245F and one in a 426245t whats the difference?

Re: thoughts on Bushnell 4200 elite tactical

dexter408,

Your question of will it get you to 1K is too vague to answer for certain.

What caliber and whats the FPS...in other words need to know your come ups before saying for sure.

So adding in my data for 308 (175 SMK@2550) I get a drop of 12.3 Mils at 1K yds so without even using a 20 MOA base there is plenty of elevation (44mils/12.8 MOA vert) to reach 1K YMMV.

BTW a 20 MOA bas would give you almost 50 mils (49.81) of vertical from a centered reticle.

The difference between those two is probably one is the 1/4moa turret SFP and the second is the FFP Mil mil.

There was a guy on here with the bushnell FFP 6-24 and 20MOA rings on a 308 AR and he did it. Also it's a mildot reticle so you can hold over a bit.

Re: thoughts on Bushnell 4200 elite tactical

Seriously, the ELITE glass is pretty sweet.

I would deffinately consider this scope, only downfall is it has little vertical adjustment.

You can alleviate this problem with a MOA base.

I think it has lots of features for the price

Re: thoughts on Bushnell 4200 elite tactical

My bro got his today from the brown santa. It's pretty nice. I love the FFP reticle. I thought that at 3x the mils would be too small to use but they're not. You can definitely range even out to 3x. Also, the illumination is cool because it's easy to adjust the brightness, unlike my NF. Glass is pretty clear, possibly close to my Mk4 but I can't say for sure because I didn't do a side by side. Didn't get to do a mechanical zero yet but if I count the mils of elevation, I'll post it up. Hopefully it's a little over 80MOA. Definitely on my next scope to buy list for sure. The price was just unbelievable, I think like $650 or something like that.

Re: thoughts on Bushnell 4200 elite tactical

You're probably gonna need a elevation base. We were calculating .223 77gr and just through ballistics, it looked like there was only enough elevation left (with our boresighted zero) to reach 850 yards.

Divide bullet drop in inches by range in hundreds of yards then by 3.6 equals MIL. Or replace 3.6 by 1.047 for MOA. Shoot, it's late and I'm like 5 beers into it so my math could be wrong haha.

Re: thoughts on Bushnell 4200 elite tactical

The Bushnell 6-24 has 13 Mils elevation total. User M4 is testing the 3-12 model. They are different in total elevation.

I am not sure you realize how little elevation 13 mils is. 13 mils total will only provide about 6 mils usable elevation after a 100 yd zero, at best. So to use this scope at 1000 yards with a 308 will require at least a 20 MOA base to just barely achieve a 1000 yd zero with no holdovers.

So it's possible, but some rifles may need more to achieve a 1000yd zero...some rifles may not be able to achieve a true 100 yard zero. The mils will allow compensation with some holdover, but that is not the point.

They want a grand for the FFP version of this scope now. For that kind of money you would think they could redesign the erector system into something that is actually usable for the kind of shooting this scope is intended for.

Other scope manufacturers seem to be able to do it...just sayin.

Re: thoughts on Bushnell 4200 elite tactical

I mounted the Bushnell 4200 Elite Tactical on my Savage last week on a 20 MOA base and have 11 MILs of verticle elevation with a 100 yard zero. We'll see if that's enough. Since the scope is in Burris Zee rings I can replace the 0 MOA inserts with 5 or 10 MOA and possibly squeeze part of the 1.2 MILs down travel out of it.
