Found a nice 550 hs stock varmit, wanting a lighter weight 308 then my FN A3G to hunt with. I really like the trigger but have never owned a CZ rifle

Has anyone had one?
How did they shoot with factory match ammo?

Re: Thoughts on CZ 550 Varmit

I have the CZ550 Varmint in .308 with the HS precision stock. I have never shot factory ammo through it only reloads. I think its a good rifle. Its very accurate IMO. Typical groups are about 3/4" at 100yds, a bad group is 1" and a good group that is typical is .3". I got the rifle because it has a detachable box magazine and the Single Set Trigger. The magazine holds 4 and is fussy about which end goes in first. The bolt handle is smaller than the tactical rifles seen all over Snipers Hide. The finish needs a lot of attention to keep the rust off. But any drawback the rifle has is forgotten when you set the trigger and touch it off. And I do mean "touch". Nothing more. Also the clean, cold bore shot is usually within 3/4 of zero POI.

Just so you guys know, I've got a CZ550 Varmint Laminate that's several years old, but the bolt knob actually screws off. It's a 6mm thread (x1.0?? can't recall at the moment), but a while back I asked Keith, I believe his name is, at AZ Precision here on the hide to make one of his bolt knobs for it, tapped to the metric thread. Fit like a glove, nearly seamless with the round bolt handle. Great rifle, I love mine.

Very nice rifles. Finish on the barreled action is top notch and I like the trigger. Some guys are not fans but I like it. The HSP kevlar stock is very nice also. Would make a nice Tactical/Hunter and asuredly weigh less than the FN.

Only thing is the rings and mounts can be tough to "walk in" and locate if you are going larger than 1". Usually you will have to order them.
