Was just wondering if anyone had any trigger time behind the 700 ss 5r .300 win mag. How's it handle. What are it's pros and cons? I have a police but am looking for something newer with 5r. Thanks.
If you have a 700P in the caliber you want, I wouldn't buy another rifle just to get "5r" rifling.
I'd spend the money on either building a custom rifle, upgrading my optics, or more ammunition and possibly a training class. You'll be further ahead with any of those routes than switching to "5r" rifling.
Why so set on 5R rifling? Just curious so many people are drinking the 5R cool-aid and are not educuated on what exactally it is. If your looking for better accuracy the 5R is no better than the standard methods it does however maintain a cleaner barrel with less fouling.
I have a rem 700 5r 300 win mag and it's a great rifle. The rifle handles well, although I think a muzzle brake would be a wise investment. I posted some information about my rifle including load data on someone else's thread. Here's the link to it. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthre...704#Post3340704
Got a bartlein on my gap. I love it. I have put alot of rounds down that tube (police) and it still shoots good. Rebarreling is probably the way to go. How much we looking at for a 26" bartlein threaded w/o chambering it?? Guesstimate I should say.
A new Bartlien is in the $325 range add flutes and more length and the price goes up. Bartlien currently has a 6+ month lead time, but there are few places that stock them Grizzly Industrial is one.
