I'm entertaining the idea of swapping the factory stock on my new 700 police .300WM for something else that's adjustable for LOP and comb. I'd like to see some input. I don't want the most expensive thing out there since it's a factory rifle. But I want adjustability and ease of installation (not against bedding, but I don't want to have to deal with getting it set-up for bottom metal by someone else). Detachable mag is a plus- rails are not required at all.

What would you guys do? I am a big guy (almost 6'4") so I need that longer LOP that the factory stock does not offer! (it's do-able for sure, but not optimal).

Depending on how big you are. A simple replacement is an AICS. I had a 700P in 7 Rem mag. I am a smaller framed guy. Some say the thumbhole is two small for large framed individuals. If you get tired of it, its in the same condition as when you dropped the barreled action in it. worth a look.

Re: Thoughts on replacement stock for LA 700P

I have actually been looking at those- seems like one of the most simple options out there. I've submitted a few pricing requests for LE / Mil pricing. Not sure if that's a price of much concern but it might be a nice route to go. I have heard the grip is awefully close to the trigger. I have pretty large hands. But at the same time, I'm pretty accustom to the M24 and M110 as well as my OBR- I can't imagine it's closer than the AR pattern rifles w/ fat ergo grip.

Any bigger guys with big hands run the ACIS have any comments on how the grip / thumb hole feels?

A downside to the ACIS is that I like the looks of a conventional stock system better. But of course that almost requires bedding.

Still open to more input. Got one quote back on the AICS at sub $800- won't mention from where.

Re: Thoughts on replacement stock for LA 700P

Sitting at:
3 for HS
1 for AICS
1 for Bell and Carlson
1 for Manners

I personally like that new Whiskey 3 someone has out for Tekka. That's about the best looking chassis system I've seen IMO. But that sounds a ways off. I may be doing some hard looking at the HS, Manners and AICS.

Also have to look into everything needed to bed it- that could sway me if it drives the cost considerably above the AICS.

No need to bed the hs . I think they are full length aluminum bedded. Mine is but I could be wrong about them all being that way. Sure someone else will let ya know

I am 6'1" and 230. LOVE my AICS. I have huge hands but didn't have any problem adjusting to this stock. It is very comfortable to shoot with, and you can actually get the adjustable comb to any spot you need. I also feel less recoil with it than my old TRG-22 stock. I won't be going back to a conventional stock any time soon.

Re: Thoughts on replacement stock for LA 700P

Okay, a couple questions:

#1, Any idea what my take-off stock would sell for (HS Precision non-adjustable, standard 700 police stock)?

#2, How sturdy is the AICS 2.0? I've always been a bit skeptical on folders but th compact storage/trasport size would be nice.

#3, can the HS stock (adjustable) be set-up to use AI mags?

I think its between the AICS and the HS Precision fully adjustable (I really like the wheel adjustments- makes position changes easier to get into when you can make quick adjustments)

Re: Thoughts on replacement stock for LA 700P

Look at the McRees stocks, Manners, McMillan, B&C.
McRees has a lot of flexibility and he can send out your order in about a week vs some of the other manufacturers. The ability to accept AI mags also helps.

I would say to talk to Massoud and see when they will have their stock ready for Remington 700 series of rifles.

Re: Thoughts on replacement stock for LA 700P

You can have a smith install the new Seekins bottom medal in an hs stock. The new Seekins takes ai mags. I have the hs police stock and am going to have short action customs install the Seekins in mine. Bedding is not required in the stock I own.
