Thread on or QD suppressor

New to the Hide, but have read this forum for a while.

I have read many posts on this issue on this site as well as many others, but still have not come across a post that addresses my exact question.

I am ready to pull the trigger on a suppressor, but can't for the life of me decide which platform, QD or thread on.

I shoot a Remington 700 LTR in .308 (duty issue rifle). This will be the primary rifle for the suppressor, but I would like to also use it on another .308 Remington I own as well as an AR in .223.

My question is concern with the repeatability of POI after detaching and then reattaching the suppressor. If I am going to use the suppressor on multiple rifles, is the QD mount going to provide the same point of impact if I take it off, for cleaning or use on another rifle, then reattach it to the original rifle? Not that concerned about shift of the POI just that it is repeatable.

Looking for experience with QD or thread on suppressors and which brand you have had success with. I like the verstility of the QD mount but am not willing to sacrifice consistency in POI. Is a QD mnount not going to meet my needs? Input is appreciated.

I like the thread on suppressors for precision rifle use. From what I have seen you get a whole lot less POI shift with the thread on suppressors then the QA.

not to mention after you shoot that thing is gonna be hot...ergo not-so-quick detatch anyway...

My $.02

I use a thread on for LR like Bacarrat (TBAC 30P on a .260 AIAW).
From shooting session to shooting session, I don't get POI shifts if I put the can on consistently. I used a silver perm marker with lines on the barrel & can to give a quick visual check. Check the can regularly - it does loosen (between stages for me in comp, after cooling!). I don't shoot w/o the can so there's no benefit there to me to have a brake or hider QD.

In AR .223, I use a QD AAC. I get slight POI shift shooting with the can vs. just the QD brake. But, like with LR, once I start shooting w/in a given session it's either 'on' or 'off'. The benefit for me for QD from a competitive standpoint is simply some 3-gun matches don't allow shooting suppressed. They are damned effective compensators, in my experience.

My free advice...

If you want to also have a muzzle device of some kind on your rifle, like a flash hider, compensator or even a brake, then I'd go with a QD system that allows for that.

Otherwise, you don't really gain a whole lot from QD except for added cost.

(And it would be more accurately called quick-attach, unless you've got a welding glove handy for removal).

I went with a Gemtech HVT because I wanted to use it on my AR-10 and my bolt gun and maybe my AR. I like it and it works great. I get about a Mil drop at 100 with my AR-10 and about 5/8th of a mil on my bolt gun at 100yds.

They are both very repeatable so its no problem for me at all. I like the set up but if I was only going to use it for my bolt gun I would go with a thread on. The other thing I would do if I had to do it over again is I would pay the extra and go with a titanium suppressor for less weight.
