I had a Ruger 77/44 threaded for a suppressor. My gunsmith threaded it 9/16-24 for a Silencerco Hybrid. The barrel wall thickness is now around .046 will that be safe for shooting .44 specials? It seams thin to me.

Thanks

Is that the minor or major thread thickness? Meaning is that the thickness while measuring the OD of the threads with a caliper and the threads are actually deeper than that? Or is that the thickness from the smallest point (IE inside the threads)?

I'd wear safety glasses for sure!

Really though, the others have 11/16-24 for that reason. Pressure wise the chamber takes most of the pressure so if it's just the tip that's slightly thin, you are probably more at risk of ripping the threads out due to bumping the suppressor. The suppressor insert will also reinforce the threaded area, IE it will only expand slightly until the thread clearance is taken away. If it cracks, it will crack at the transition of the barrel to threads where it should be undercut. The undercut is so the suppressor sits against a flush surface and not fully dependent on the threads for alignment.

I am also not a barrel threading expert, so if you hurt yourself or others, this is the disclaimer I will use so you don't sue me.

My smith did not want to thread my 77/44 fwiw... ended up selling it off because of that pretty much.

I imagine you'd have to sbr or rebarrel it to get enough meat for proper threads?

You could also use some sort of adapter on the stock threads. Kind of like a muzzle brake only with the correct size threads on the exit. I'm not sure what all that would do to accuracy though.

A bit unrelated but my 77/44 in an integral, might be a good option for yours? BTW, how's the accuracy of yours? Mine leaves a lot to be desired.
