I've been considering throat errosion and it's effect on accuracy. Here is my thoughts. Tell me what you think.
- Remington 700 current production rifles (typically)have a very long jump to the rifling. So, throat errosion shouldn't have much effect (if any) on the accuracy of one of these rifles, since there is so much of a jump already.
- A custom rifle barrel is capable of jamming the bullets into the rifling, which allows for greater tuning of your reloads. Throat errosion on one of these rifles would effect accuracy much more since you would (over time) be chasing the rifling and constantly changing your load set up.
- I guess what I am saying here is that with a stock remington, you get what you get. From there, accuracy shouldn't fall off as much over time. But, you have no control what so ever over your jump to the rifling.
Am I really of base here??
Please don't misunderstand. I'm not saying a stock Remington is more accurate than a custom barrel. What I'm wondering here is if a custom barrel would be effected more by throat erosion than a barrel with a really deep throat.
