I complimented a guy at the range about his Tikka 558 in 243 and as it turns out he’s trying to selling it. I don’t know a whole bunch about the 558 models. It’s in a wood stock and looks like a well cared for hunting rifle. Is it a rifle that should be left all original or would it be something to change the barrel and drop in a different stock to use for long range shooting? Is there any chassis available or other aftermarket parts? What kinda of price is typical for one in darn good shape?
    Thanks for the help 👍

In case you're interested, GRS rifle stocks make aftermarket stocks for that rifle per their website. The Beretta website also lists a wood as well as a polymer stock.

i've never had one but i'm told they're Sako quality

I’ve heard that. I was thinking about getting a t3 and a chassis but I happened on to this. I really don’t want another hunting rifle but if $900 is a good deal I’ll grab it up. Thanks for your input

I think the 558 and 595 have the same footprint. Do you know if there’s any chassis available for yours? Is $900 too much for a 558?

I honestly don't know what the current valuation for a 558 would be...i'm sorry. They sure are pretty rifles but i've no experience with them, only saw pictures when i was looking for my Tikka rifle but it was a long time ago.

Perhaps you're correct as to the shared platforms...the reason i think that might be true is when one searches the GRS site for fitment it links the 595, the 558 and the 590 together.

With respect to the 595.... GRS offers 4 different stocks, i strongly considered purchasing one of the GRS laminate stocks like the sporter or the hybrid as i didn't want to bugger up my original stock but figured life is short might as well enjoy what i have. I believe Eurooptic carries the GRS line. LRI mentioned in a recent post that they have experience custom insetting GRS stocks to barreled actions.

Here's the link to the Eurooptic stocks that should fit: https://www.eurooptic.com/search.aspx?keyword=tikka+595

I've communicated with GRS in the past and they're very responsive by email (albeit it took a couple of days....which makes sense as they're located in Norway).

It does look like Midwest Gun Works has some (but not all )spare parts still available like the firing pin, bolt body, recoil lug etc.

sorry i couldn't be of more help

Thank you for all your help. I didn’t find much online about them either. I like the Grs hybrid stock too. From what I can tell there’s not much stuff available and I like to fire the guns I have. I have too many safe queens as it is. I’m in the middle of 2 rifle builds and I’m having a couple of concrete shooting benches with a covered slab built for my home range. I keep going over budget on stuff. Maybe someone will enlighten me a bit more otherwise I’m gonna have to pass on a beautiful rifle.

If that is your intent why not just buy a brand new Tikka CTR for the about the same price that does have plenty of aftermarket support?

I recommend ditching the benches then. Unless you're going to compete in benchrest, shooting benches are pointless.

I don’t shoot benchrest competition but I got crippled up in the service and I shoot better off a bench. Also the concrete benches are minimal cost. There’s a minimum deliverable load of 4 yards. There was gonna be concrete left over from pouring the slab. I can give it back or pour it in a couple of forms made from old boards I have laying around. I’ve mainly been running over on my rifle builds more specifically the scopes.
