Tikka in 7mm08 question

I've looked around but haven't been able to find a definite answer, can the Tikkas factory 1 in 9.5 twist barrel stabilize the heavier 7mm08 projectiles like the 162gr Amax?

This is not specific to an Amax, but berger recommends 1 in 10 or more for their 168 grain VLD bullet. Based on this, I would say that 1 in 9.5 is perfectly acceptable.

Per Litz's book, a 1:10 yields a stability factor of ~1.3 for both 168vld and 162 Amax, assuming 50% humidity, 2800fps MV and 1000' ASL.

Technically, a factor of 1.0 or more will work, but rule of thumb is to go for 1.4 or higher.

That 9.5 twist with 162/168 @ 2750fps will be right on the edge of being 1.4, but will certainly be well in excess of 1.0.

I think it'll be fine.
