ive ordered a tikka t3x ctr in stainless 20 inch. an a vortex 6x24x50 hs-t 30 mm I'm gonna stay with the standard rail for now. havnt got my rings yet.. can i get by with low or med rings?. does vortex make a decent ring? i like to get it low as i can to the barrel an still clear.. any recommendations would be great.

I am interested as well I will be buying a CTR and using the rail that comes with it as well. I can tell you that I have the Vortex Precision Matched rings on my .22 Trainer and they are awesome...a bit pricy and I think Seekins makes them for them. Someone has a set in optics or accessories sales s3ction but I can’t remember which one.

Low rings (.87 or so) will work with a 50mm objective on the tikka rail but the rubber boot on butler creek scope caps will touch. Its that close with my tikka and nightforce shv 4-14x50 f1.

If you plan on changing bases later I would go with the low rings because chances are the new base will be much higher and your scope will be as low as possible. If you are going to stay with the factory base then I would get the medium height.

And I think vortex rings are made by Seekins unles something changed. I just got my tikka 6.5 20” and love it so far. Dropped it in a cadex chassis and went with the Spuhr Mount. To get over the cadex rail it was the Spuhr 1.5” rings. Enjoy!

This has been my exact experience. Tikka CTR with the factory base and low SWFA rings - my SWFA HD 5-20 didn't hit, but the Butler Creek caps did. I went to medium rings. It's likely low rings would be fine if I upgraded the scope base, which I don't see a need for.
