I am looking to get a new long range rifle in .338 lapua. I am still open to suggestions, but i have narrowed it down to the ax338 or the timberwolf with the monolithic rail and folding stock.

Re: Timberwolf or Accuracy international ax338.

no experience with either, have a drop in AX chassis and i love it.

you need to weight pros and cons of each based on what is important to you.

weight
adjustability
size
portability
looks
customer support
performance in the field
accuracy... obviously
price
lead time
consumer reviews

only you can decide whats important to you without more details

Re: Timberwolf or Accuracy international ax338.

I have soht the Timberwolf and a 308 AX (I know its not the Lapua but as close as you can get), the Timberwolf is fantastic! However the AX would be my choice, I have no real reason other than I realy like the AI rifles. To me 99% of the "features" of the AI rifles are as easy to have on most other turn bolt rifles that are properly set up. But the BIG selling point to me is the permanently bonded action to the chassis. I think this is what all other rifles are missing. I think this is what takes the AI rifles to the next level, true it may not make much difference 99% of the time but when your action comes lose for whatever reason or the bedding gets damaged and goes unnoticed you will wish you were shooting an AI. Just my thoughts. Also I much more prefer a 3 lug action.

I agree that the Timberwolf is fantastic, but both rifle are appear to be a little over priced at the moment. Maybe it's only my impression?

From Internet:
Timberwolf Rifle System Retail $7,000. Current Special is $6,700

AX338 $7,400

Both will definitely be head turners, and the AI is a great system. I only own an AW but it's definitely a great gun. Timberwolf I've never seen in person but it definitely looks interesting and I'd love the chance to shoot one. I agree with the poster above about the price though, I increasingly find my TRG-42 to be an amazing bargain that is every bit as capable as my AW.
