I brought my UTG bipod that I had on my R700 .30-06 which was working just fine to my annual training for the Army... Well on zeroing I realized it was rotating more then it should. Well while qualifying the piece of shit fell apart. I fixed it back at the barracks and the POS fell apart again... So I ended up using one of those vertical grips that turn into a bipod...

Anyhow, I need to get another bipod now...

I used someone's GG&G bipod and it was nice. I didn't like how I couldn't pivot it, but it did swivel.

I also heard great things about the Rock SOPMOD here (I might have even asked about it in the past)

Just trying to decide in between... I need something heavy duty, the conditions here really beat on everything. (I would use it on my military rifles I'm issued as well)

I like those raptor claws on the SOPMOD, but my nearby range has concrete ground, so when I'm prone it would sit on concrete... On competitions it'd be on grass, which then I'd have no issues... Military wise, it would mostly be on dirt or grass...

Just want to see some opinions on which I should go for...

I considered the atlas, but it's little too expensive...

Thanks!

Harris 6-9 swivel with notched legs, add a PodLock are your GTG, but IMHO the Atlas V8.1 is simply the best bipod money can buy, I did a how to on installing the rail on stocks in the Gunsmithing Section.

Both are available from TriadTactical.com at the best price and best customer service.

Re: time for new bipod. GG&G or Rock SOPMOD

You guys really like that atlas...

What makes the atlas better compared to the SOPMOD?

I don't give a fucking rats ass if it looks better or if the finish is better. I need it to work well. And I don't want any fucking hop. I don't want to have to load the fucking bipod either.

Re: time for new bipod. GG&G or Rock SOPMOD

What is the diff between the clamp, no clamp, and adm mount?

The clamp one, I might be able to do, but not the adm one, that's too much.

I already have seekins' sling rail system pica tinny rail btw.

The Atlas is so good because of it's combination of durability, mounting options, swivel/cant, interchangeable feet, optional leg extensions, independent 3 position leg adjustments and simple no-frills operation. I've heard the customer service is pretty good, too, but I wouldn't know because I've never needed it

Lastly, the Atlas is great <span style="font-style: italic">because</span> of how easy it is to load and how steady it is once stable. I even run mine with the tension knob loose to get a little extra forward leverage. It's what allows you to maintain a sight picture on the target all the way through the shot.

Unless you have a VERY heavy rig and add a VERY heavy bipod, you need to load it to prevent hop. Fortunately, the Atlas is pretty lightweight considering it's capabilities.

Have you had the opportunity to use one? Likes? Dislikes?

Re: time for new bipod. GG&G or Rock SOPMOD

I've not had the oppurtimity to try one. Nobody in my area that I know of has oe...

I've tried the Harris, utg and the gg&g

Maybe I'll pull thentirgger on the clamp one. I can afford that.

Clamp version attaches to a rail righ? Just no QD which I don't need...

Bipod "hop" doesn't have anything to do with the brand of the bipod, rather it is a function of your position behind the rifle.
Good videos on You Tube that can further explain.

Why wouldn't you load the pod? I've owned a couple Atlas's, but am back to Harris for now. Nothing wrong with Atlas at all, I'm just in dollar saving mode.

Re: time for new bipod. GG&G or Rock SOPMOD

I have an Atlas, GG&G and Harris on different rifles. I would have Atlas, on the Seekins base, on all of them; about as good as a bipod gets. Rifle jump has more to do with your rifle set up/weight, what you put it on and your hold and how you get behind the rifle. Here is my 308 Milspec:

Re: time for new bipod. GG&G or Rock SOPMOD

I do too: GG&G "heavy" duty on an AR platform, an "Ultra Duty" on a large caliber bolt gun, several Atlas on small and large frame ARs. They deploy and adjust somewhat differently but both work really well. They all pan, tilt and so forth.

Much more elegant than the Harris, in MHO. I'd suggest you go with either.

I can't quite answer your question about which version will work but I think you would be very happy with it. Nothing wrong with the Harris, GGG, etc but when I'm using my Atlas, I'm 110% confident that my rifle will feel like it's bolted to the floor.

Re: time for new bipod. GG&G or Rock SOPMOD

Another vote for Atlas, I hesitated for awhile because of the price, but it really is worlds apart from other bipods. Buy it and you won't look back.

Re: time for new bipod. GG&G or Rock SOPMOD

I'll trust everyones wisdom here. Atlas it is...

Just before I buy to confirm.

Clamp on version is just a simple attachment that connects to the pic rail right. I don't need a QD mount

Thats' right. The basic <span style="font-style: italic">"Clamp on"</span> version is called the <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">"BT10"</span></span> and has a simple clamp that use twin screws to secure it to the rail. I know Triad Tactical sells them - heres the link to the <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">BT10 at Triad Tactical</span></span>.

I also purchased the clamp on version. It's on a dedicated rifle so there was no need for the added expense of a QD mount. Maybe in the future.

I ordered a Atlas for my tactical rig. I have never owned one, but I am going off of other people here. I hear they are the shit. So I must try. </div></div>

just got mine. my 1st imperssions of it is that my UTG felt sturdier, but Kasey says it will perform in the field, and that's all I care for... in september, I will put it through it's paces at Camp Blanding for another training session on a M4 (my UTG lasted half a day out there)
