Tips for removing and reinstalling an A2 front site.

On the same barrel ?? And entire base...

The pins are tapered. And semi fitted... semi.

Remove handguard. Can remove gas tube.

Mark front pin, mark rear pin. Keep segregated.
Drive tapered pins out correctly in the delrin block, or, make your own block out of soft pine stud.

Remove sight with non metallic gunsmith hammer.

Do whatever you were going to do with the sight off.

Be sure barrel is deburred after sight removal so burrs do not hinder replacement.

Very, very, very light lubricant to ease installation. Place sight on barrel and use same hammer to put it back. Reinstall marked tapered pins in the correct hole...

Easy enough.

So I could use a drill press to make a little jig out of 2x4?

I’m helping my buddy do a build and his barrel came without the barrel nut or delta ring installed.

You need a "V" and an "indent" to keep the sight base from moving while you punch out the pins, and a recess for the pin to drop into. You should be able to see a workable outline laying the base on the 2x4 where you need to remove material.

My method would not be approved by too many here. I took two pieces of very soft white pine inner wall stud, and an old base, sandwiched the old base btw the two pieces of stud, and vise crushed it into the stud pieces.
Did a little drill press clean up, crushed it again, drilled the pin drop holes, and have my own personal tool. And, it works for me. Others mileage ..... variance, and all that.

Best to you. VR
