To 5R or not to 5R

Re: To 5R or not to 5R

Nothing wrong with 5R or standard 4 groove. Just another choice. As long as the barrel is made well then you will be fine with either. I have both from Bartlein and they shoot great. Good choice in barrel makers.

Re: To 5R or not to 5R

I have both 5R (Rock) and regular grooved barrels (Hart) and the main difference I see is in cleaning effort. 5R cleans up quicker but there is no difference in accuracy that I can see....at least in my guns.

Re: To 5R or not to 5R

Just go 5r and never look back. I hear that it doesn’t make a difference but a lot of shooting is between the ears. If you think 5r is better get it. I only own 5r barrels and with the success I have had with them I will only own 5r barrels..... For now.

Re: To 5R or not to 5R

There's a school of thought that a barrel with an odd number of lands/grooves will shoot better at long distances due to less distortion of the bullet.

In barrels with an even number, lands are always 180 degrees apart and cause more "pinch" of the bullet while the odd numbered barrels have the bore directly opposite each land resulting in 1/4 the distortion. Is also supposed to result in less gas leakage.

Someone out there on another forum or barrel maker site posted a diagram explaining this but I lost track of it.

Have you noticed a speed difference between the two
Have you seen any bullet blow ups between the two

Thanks
