I'm curious about your AR as you state you are mostly an AR aficionado. Does it meet your standard of "cheap" accuracy as well as the Savage? Certainly you wouldn't be running around with an AR that cost more than $1,000 and then slandering those that prefer expensive rifles......

My friend, Lee, the one who spent 3 active tours of combat stationed out of Da Nang, Vietnam, had one given to him by a friend. His full sig is followed by the acronym, A.I.C, Asshole In Charge.
Then, he got one for me at Christmas of 1999. I am not sure where they got those. May have to look that up. And, I have been a certified asshole for decades, I may still have to petition to get the bona fides of AIC.
It is in a frame and sits above my end of a double recliner. If you walk in the house and do not know who the asshole is, reading writing on the wall.

Back to one note about a 1 shot not being valid for any use. You can shoot literally one shot out of the cold barrel. Wait until the next day and do it again. Do that for 5 days. Collect and overlay that.
Then, sit down one day and shoot 5 at one sitting. It will look similar. Meaning, there are variances in a cold shooter (more important than the barrel,) the ammo. For example, let's say a round of 7 PRC has 57.1 grains of charge weight. It won't be exactly 57.1. It could be a little above or below, depending on the sensitivity of the scale.
Center of gravity or distribution of mass in the slug.
And I watch the Texas Plinking challenge and people who spent 2 to 4k on a rig and another 1.5 to 2k in glass. Handloaded ammo.
And get bitch-slapped by the Texas wind.
So, just because a budget rifle got a good shot doesn't mean that it is going to always hit that exact impact.
Another thing about budget rifles and this will definitely happen with budget barrels. There can be a curve in the bore. So, that is why, especially trying to compete or just be good at ELR, guys will spend a chunk of change on a premium barrel that has reduced those variances to the least amount possible.
