My 35-year-old son just called me and asked me what to do because he's trying to change his tire and it keeps spinning when he tries to loosen the lug nut.
Honestly I'm afraid for our country.......

Should have gone to court more. I spent a shitload on lawyers and more time in court trying to get more parenting time. I wanted more time and she wanted more money. Since they don't coincide, it was always a shitfight. I got a little more each time but goddamn she fought it. She was in a county where 80-90% of parenting cases were deadbeat dads so I just got lumped in. Kept on them year after year and they had no choice but to give me something more each time. Only reason you would get zero parenting time is if you are a total fuckup, or didn't try. Don't get me wrong, the system is fucked. I slogged through the whole, fuckin, thing.Raised by his mother, and her Ex Con boyfriend....
So, did you, like, think it was some sort of a prank call at first. My 35-year-old son just called me and asked me what to do because he's trying to change his tire and it keeps spinning when he tries to loosen the lug nut.

So he knows how to make a shiv , but doesn't know how to change a tire.Raised by his mother, and her Ex Con boyfriend....

Go inside and smack your wife... and ask her what the hell she was doing having an affair with a liberal milkman or somesuch... ;-) Probably didn't have milkmen in 1990. But you get the idea.My 35-year-old son just called me and asked me what to do because he's trying to change his tire and it keeps spinning when he tries to loosen the lug nut.

Even "professional" shops have no idea what they are doing.
I’ll bet the OP was expecting a different outcome to this……
Comes down to the old “give him a fish vs teach him to fish”
Did about the same thing. Both kids had to change a tire on an old 4Runner before they were allowed to drive it. The whole cycle too. Drop the spare, change the tire, take the spare off and put the original back on AND put the spare back under the truck. Can't expect them to know if they aren't taught.Training failure IIMHO . . .
I wouldn't take my kids (two boys, one girl) for their drivers test until they could satisfactorily change a tire. I gave instructions, a demonstration, and guided practice. When it came time for the "tire-test" if I had to correct them during their effort we waited a day or so and restarted.
Hi,
Meanwhile the OP is blazing the path in shit that affects his family none at all.

There comes a time when one has to stop being concerned with what others are doing and focus on what they are doing.
That time would definitely be when a 35 year old male offspring cannot change a flat tire.
The only way to affect the change we desire in the world is to stop looking for the fix from the top and start being the fix from the bottom.
Don't worry about your neighbors until you own household is in order.
Don't worry about your State until your County is in order.
Don't worry about your County until your Town is in order.
Don't worry about your Town until your neighborhood is in order.
Don't worry about your neighborhood until your street is in order.
Stop trying to fix the big things first, because if you take care of the little things..the big things never happen.
Sincerely,
Theis
I didn't have that lesson. Yet, somehow, even before I actually had to change a tire, I knew how to do it. Perhaps because as a child (like 5 years old), I'd go to the workshop and fasten bolts together through wood planks (complete with an actual electric drill...no batteries here...real torque), use a multitude of screw drivers, wrenches, wire cutters and even soldering irons!!! I guess my father figured if I couldn't figure out the lug nut thing after my "vo-tech training at 5 years old", that he didn't want me back in the house.Training failure IIMHO . . .

Seems so simple.
Waaaaay too many people focus on everyone else and ignore the person in the mirror.
My 15 yr old step son is constantly complaining about how everyone else does things. Then he acts like he's the victim of his own behavior.
Many times I've walked him in front of the mirror and told him to have a chat with the guy staring back at him if he wants things to change.
After 7 years of doing this, it's begining to sink in.
He hates it when I point out personal responsibility is his to own.
Maybe by the time he's 25 he might realize that his shit needs to be good before he starts blasting others for their shit.
Time will tell, but he's not getting a pass from me on it.
The best part of all of this was dinner the other night when he started complaining again.
I asked him who was responsible for his behavior and feelings.
He told me he wasn't playing the victim again, which was the first time he's ever acknowledged it.
He paused for a few seconds and immediately changed the subject....
