I am looking for something truly extrodinary. I have several rifles built on donor actions by the local smith, the are great rifles. I am wanting to go to the next level I want the best smith. Lets look at the parts.
6.5x47
Rock creek 8tw
Deviant action
Mcree chassis
Thunder beast 30ba brake

.308
Stiller tac30 aw
Rock creek 11.25 tw
Mcree chassis
Thunder beast 30ba brake

The rifles I have I use for hunting. These I am wanting to build I want to be as close to perfect as possible. For shooting steel
Please help with your suggestions
Thanks
Mike

many of the gunsmiths who frequent this forum are top shelf. i do not think you are going to find people saying there is a definitive BEST out there...more of a list of 6-8 that you can really not go wrong with. i do not have direct experience on a custom build with any of them, so i will keep my mouth shut on specific suggestions. i would, however, suggest doing a search and browsing the threads in this section of the forum. you will find what you are looking for.

John Beanland has my vote!

Also I know a more private guy in New Mexico who does great work.. Either way both are gear gunsmiths; just goes to show you there hidden gems out there. Just need to do the trsearch

Jon Beanland is building my 6.5 creedmoor as I type. I'm having Accurate Ordnance build a 308 that will probably be ready in a week or so as well. I talked with AJ the owner of BigHorn actions and he is very high on Jon. When I talked to Jon , he took the time to answer all of my questions. If you're close enough to drive and see Jon I would recommend it. I would say the same about AO they are not within driving distance though, but they return calls and take the time to answer questions. Both are great to deal with.

A good friend got a supped up over work on new Navy seals rifle for a song because the seal thought it was a lemon after having spent tons of cash at a local gun smith.

Everything on the gun was built to perfection but it was not a tack driver.

WHY?

He missed the point of what is most needed to drive tacks...Resonant frequency match!

Just as a ham radio needs a perfectly tuned antenna, so will you rifle need to be tuned to match the bullet weight and velocity.

Don't give up on your rifle until you test several loads to see if your group will get tighter.
