Well my buddy finally talked me out of my GAP Crusader so now I am in the market to pick up something new. Liked the .308 but thinking Im just ready for something different and a change up, thinking .260 in AIAX, or maybe a GAP10. Any thoughts.

Well if you aren't in a hurry, have you considered a Desert Tactical with both flavors of barrels that interest you? It will be well worth the wait. There's actually one on gunbroker right now but it looks like dude is trying to get more than retail.

I really don't think there is a better precision rifle out there for accuracy, reliability, and durability than the AX. They are a very fine rifle.

I haven't had the pleasure of owning a GAP10, but I wouldn't want a gas gun to be my only precision rifle. If you have an AX budget, maybe consider an AE MK III in .260 and a GAP10 for close to the same budget?

My shooting buddy has a GAP10 and its a def nice rifle and shoots just like a gap, but i am really diggin the AX but there is nobody around here with one to go handle but im sure the AX wouldnt be a disappointment at all.

Mile High has some AIAX 260s in stock, thats why im leaning that way, my crusader was my main shooting rifle for rock chucks and what not, so im hoping to find something used on here or buy new from MH

how much of a improvement is the 260 over 308?

Thats a question that can be answered in many ways.

Your intended purpose has a lot to do with it.

For starters. .260 has less drop and wind drift @ 1000 yards. This is because of the faster moving, higher bc bullets traveling on a flatter trajectory.

There are two ways the .308 is better for the hobbyist shooter:
You want to buy cheap factory ammo, or you want maximum barrel life.

There are two major ways the .260 is better:
Better external ballistics and less recoil.

ETA: My semi-auto is a .308, my AX is a 260.
