So I'm thinkin' I might run my own numbers so to speak. Not use an app. Anybody got a recommendation for a calculator? My mac computes but does not calculate. I saw a TI 89 that looks like it might suffice. I dunno. My dif.eq is 40 years behind. Thanks,Art

Re: trajectory calculations

JBM and Bergers site both have good Calcs you can use. Is that what your looking for or hand held? Free as well... Where in Or?

Re: trajectory calculations

Just use JBM. If you need something portable, score a used iPod Touch (2nd gen or newer) and load an app on it. Or scrounge around for a used or cheap-ass Android phone. Load an app on it. It otherwise makes no sense to try to run the necessary calculations when you could be out shooting.

Re: trajectory calculations

When I was running machine gun schools for the Alaska National Guard, I made the students use a pencil and paper.

They had to do the calculations and plot them on the range card.

that is a lot like using a map vs gps

when I used maps, I had a visual image of where I was/ distances etc

with the GPS it is just turn when told - I go somewhere and come back with no idea of where it was/ distances/ direction

there are definite advantages to electronics for trajectory/ drift, but it makes it so easy for the actual knowledge to slip away
