I've been looking high and low and i can't find any trajectory data on these rounds. I am using Federal(FC) .308 as well as some NATO/Mil DAG .308.

1) 150g Federal
2) 168g Federal Match
3) 147g DAG 7.62x51 German

Here are the pics...I'll love you forever if you can find anything.

The only way to get in the ballpark is to know the average muzzle velocity of each round from your particular rifle, or, you can get the data by actually shooting the ammo through your rifle and recording your come-ups from your min. range out to your max range in either 25yd or 50yd increments (your preference).

Anything else is just a purely uneducated "guess" because when mfgs publish "ballistic data" for their ammo, it is usually with a set of parameters that are different from the parameters you are personally shooting under (i.e. - different rifles, different barrel lengths, different environmental/atmospheric conditions, etc.). For example, it is common for published data to use 26" barrels which while some folks use 26" barrels on their .308 rifles, it is much more common around here to see shorter barrels which obviously mean less muzzle velocity and different dope.

However...if you just want something to put you in the game...you might try these links in order:

http://www.federalpremium.com/products/details/rifle.aspx?id=74 - Federal/Amer. Eagle 150gr AE308D

http://www.federalpremium.com/products/details/rifle.aspx?id=150 - 168gr FGMM GM308M

As for the DAG/MEN 147gr ball...that will be purely a guess without you shooting/chronoing the ammo from your gun. The simple fact is that surplus ammo can vary pretty significantly in terms of performance (not just from rifle to rifle, but lot to lot). My guesstimate is that you'll get around 2700fps in MV, but beyond that...who knows. If you can locate some ballistic data, a range card, etc. for Federal XM80 US military ball ammo, that might get you a little closer, but again...the only dope that means anything is the dope you develop for your rifle!

Good luck!!

Best post ever! Thanks a loT!!!! I'm going to invest in a chronograph I think. It seems almost necessary otherwise I'm spending tons on ammo just shooting randomly and not knowing where or how I should be shooting. Is there one you can recommend? I was looking at some from Midway but couldn't really decide ? I am not looking for anything fancy but something that gets the job done.

The complete Oehler 35P system would be the only chrono I would buy now having spent more money on other, cheaper models before ending up with the 35P. I'm living proof of "BUY ONCE, CRY ONCE" when it comes to chronos!!

The Oehler 35P isn't cheap, but it is the best without spending VASTLY more money. Here is a link to both the Oehler site and the store where you can read more on the 35P:

ouch man thats so expensive! I might just ask a few local guys to let me borrow theirs and I could record the readings? I dont intend to reload, I just want to get a good map of my ammo in my rifle like you suggested.

FWIW the DAG shot an average of 2731 (10 shots) out of my FAL w/ 21" barrel.

Oh...I see. Nevermind then. If you don't reload or you don't envision yourself using the chrono much more than this time, then there is no sense throwing good money after something that you won't be using frequently whether the cost is $100 or $600.
