You are not require to fill out forms...but you need to follow all laws in the states you are traveling to. Also...you must be sure not to take it to a state where it is illegal.
SBR's are different. You need to notify ATF by form when you are transporting SBR's or other NFA items.

Not a bad idea to do a 5320.20 aka the form 20. But not required.
Why do it? Might do it in case some local cop doesn't know the rules.
I have never been hassled myself. It Just depends on your level of paranoia and aversion to being hassled by sheriff roscoe
