TRG deal?

Re: TRG deal?

I think it is a great deal, but my prices are higher here in Canada. I was looking at the same rifle new yesterday and it was $3800 for the rifle alone. No extra mags, bipod, etc.

Re: TRG deal?

I bought a green 338LM in early 2006, paid $2650 for the rifle, $189 for a spare mag, $189 for the muzzle brake, $389 for the 3 ring 30 moa mount and $389 for the bipod. One week later, the accessories went into the 2s and 4s, respectively.

That scope alone is $1800, or so, new, so it's a good-very good deal right now, even at the buy it now of $4350.

Personally speaking, the 300 WM is cheaper to load, but that Lapua 338LM brass is quite robust, as I'm at 9 cycles right now with no DOAs to speak of. If you crunch the 'brass life' numbers, it might not be all that cheaper going with the 300WM.

Re: TRG deal?

Can't tell if this is phosphatized. He mentions a break-in process. I'd ask him about that, and see if what he did is to your liking.

A comparison to new...

TRG, 300 Win Mag = $2500 (phosphatized, $3100)
2 extra mags = $350
cheek spacer = $75
Sako muzzle brake = $200
Sako bipod = $450 (his is damaged)
Butt spacer = $32 (I don't see practical use for this; butt's already pretty long)
Badger rail/rings $185 (not sure what he has there)
Nightforce NXS 8-32x mil turret = $1755
(Tools already come with a new TRG.)

So about $5547, or $6147 phosphatized for equivelent new. Plus FFL fee and shipping. The damaged bipod is a bit of a downer, but that depends on how exactly it's "shorter". If one leg just doesn't extend 1/2 inch as far, that's not a huge deal. It's supposed to extend 7-12". If one leg is stuck in a position, that would kinda suck. But overall nice package and a sweet, sweet rifle. If everything's good on it, you will love it.
