Trigger Issue - Jard

I have a Jard single stage trigger. When I shoot off of the bench, holding the rifle with one hand (right), stock pulled into my shoulder, nice slow trigger pull I get the dreaded BAM, BAM or BAM, BAM, BAM... double or triple tap almost every time. I've adjusted it every way possible, called Jard and went over it with them, induced creep, changed out springs from 2 to 4 lbs., no dice.

If I use a good solid two hand hold or jerk the trigger a little, everything is fine. Off hand or sticks and everything is fine.

Best I can tell, It's bump firing (bouncing of my shoulder and hitting the trigger again), but haven't wanted to lay out the cash to try another trigger to see if it is just a Jard issue.

I end up single feeding when I work up loads or shoot off of the bench. I don't like this because I would prefer not to break my cheek weld between shots.

Anyone else have this problem?... Any suggestions?

That is exactly what is happening. The reset must be a very minimal distance, and the pull weight real light. I have had this happen on a pistol before, which had a very light trigger pull. The recoil is causing you to hit the light trigger again after the first pull.

you simply don't have it adjusted right even though you think you have done it every way. I have this happen only once out of all the JARDs I have put in and I corrected that with a bit more adjustment

Re: Trigger Issue - Jard

Had this problem with a Jard 2# trigger and a LR308. It's not designed for 308, but at the time it was the only trigger in stock anywhere (Obama election timeframe). I got a RRA trigger instead and haven't had a problem since.

You're correct in that recoil is making you bump fire. A proper trigger press should have you still holding the trigger back after recoil so that you have to reset the sear, but that doesn't always happen. I put my Jard in a little AR, and it doesn't do the bump fire thing, although when I first put it in the hammer didn't always reset. I had to readjust the trigger.

Any suggestions on a good trigger that does not have a quick and short reset? I prefer single stage triggers with a pull weight between 2 and 3 pounds. If I had to run a 2 stage to make this go away, I'd be open to it.

Any specific advise on how to adjust out of this? I've adjusted it more than 20 different times trying to make the bump fires go away, including trying different springs. The only way I made it go away was when I adjusted the sear engagement and the disconnect adjustment to the point where the trigger would not reset reliably and I often have to push the trigger forward to make it reset. This seemed like a good idea until I called in a double on coyotes and the second one got away because the trigger didn't reset.

Atleast I'm not the only one to have this problem.

Getting down to 3lbs or less won't be easy. Not many single stage that are set that light. JP Rifles has one that can be taken down to 3lbs.

I just installed a Timney on my Mega MA-Ten and it works great. It's a single stage with a very clean break and a decent reset that isn't likely to cause the doubling you're experiencing. However, theirs only drop down to a 4lb pull.

The problem you're going to have with single stage AR triggers in this weight range is reliability. Many of these give a great trigger feel but occasionally have trouble with not setting off primers because of light striking.
