Gunsmithing TRIGGER JOBS ON FACTORY AR-15 TRIGGERS????????

Re: TRIGGER JOBS ON FACTORY AR-15 TRIGGERS????????

I have done then before. I don't do them unless I have the rifle.

I weld tabs on the trigger and disconnector, then tap them and insert threaded studs. This allows me to adjust trigger engagement, plus I stone some surfaces.

Re: TRIGGER JOBS ON FACTORY AR-15 TRIGGERS????????

hey i was looking for this info myself. i saw a few youtube vids where the guy polished the contact points on the trigger. he used a dremel but then just used the wheel laid flat on a table to polish the end on the trigger. he did nothing to the engagement surface on the hammer. i read that the hammer and trigger are cast and surface hardened. once you start polishing or stoning the surface they go to crap. thats what i read. at what they cost, just keep replacing them. this same guy did bend the legs on the trigger spring and cut one leg on the hammer spring. myself, i would look in brownells and get the $4 reduced power sprring set. another guy just put polishing or rubbing compound, cant recall which, on the hammer and trigger engagement surfaces, cocked and fired 10 times, cleaned it, added more compound and repeated. if you search yahoo or google using ar-15 trigger job, you will find lotsa stuff, there is even a gunsmith institute cd/vhs. i would just use 1500 or 1000 wet/dry to polish just the trigger. or buy a timney, thats what im going to do.

The RR National Match 2 stage with the Bill Springfield work is very nice for a Target AR. One pound take up stage, and two pound release, while maintaining the heavy hammer sping for reliable ignition.

i know it would CAUSE brain damage to use the search function......but what the salty already know is that JP fire control components with yellow springs will get you to replicate what a tweeked bolt gun trigger will do.

Re: TRIGGER JOBS ON FACTORY AR-15 TRIGGERS????????

The RR two stage has a reputation for becoming a single stage after a lot of use, and I've also heard of a few hammers breaking. NOt to say it's a bad trigger...I have two of them, but just passing along reliable info.

For a real easy trigger job on a standard tactical single stage, I use this method:

Usually nets about 5# and a decent feel for a tactical single stage.

Re: TRIGGER JOBS ON FACTORY AR-15 TRIGGERS????????

AR factory trigger components are surface hardened. I have seen more than a few factory AR triggers with "trigger jobs" that went a few hundred rounds and then started doubling. My opinion is that if you want a better trigger then buy a purpose built aftermarket trigger.

Bill Springfield Trigger Works

Bill did some excellent work for me on my AR. Fast turn around and reasonable cost. My friend has a JPs on his and I would say they are pretty close in function.

Re: TRIGGER JOBS ON FACTORY AR-15 TRIGGERS????????

Like the bill Springfield triggers pike those above. Mine breaks at crisp repetable 4 lbs. Never any problems when dirty or with mil surp ammo. Could not ask for anything else.
