Depends. What kind of long range shooting.
My rifle is for tactical work. 2-3# is my preference. That is light enough for precision, but heavy enough that it has to be an intentional pull. Tickling the trigger won't set it off (standard safety rules DO apply).

I run mine anywhere from 2 1/2-3 pounds . Plenty light for precision fieldwork and heavy enough that you don't have to worry about an AD at the worst possible time . It is also important to remove creep and overtravel from the trigger as both can have an adverse impact on your accuracy .

What is your experience and what is the intended purpose?
When I shot long range competition, I adjusted the trigger to under 1#. Light enough to be able to catch the crosshairs at just the right point in the heartbeat cycle with a squeeze instead of a jerk of the trigger. Shooting highpower rifle, I was limited by the equipment rules of NRA/CMP. Now, with a combination rig (future competition and hunting) I set it to where it was crisp, minimal creep and SAFE (no dropping of the firing pin when slamming the bolt). Ends up around 2.5#.

I use 1.5# to 2.5# depending upon the rifle.
My dbbl set triggers are 5 oz.

Get a Jewel and set it at 8oz, to me thats the best LR setup. Ive got them on all my guns and I hunt with them too. If your truely talking LR you want a light trigger!

If you are asking others about trigger weight than I recommend using a 2.5-3 lbs with minimal creep and overtravel.

I think it depends on the total weight of the rifle. My heavy rigs weigh from 11-15 pounds all up and I can make do with a 2-3# trigger on them if I had too, but I like less. My lightest rifle is sub-7#'s all up and I like a pound or less on it, it's actually at about 11ounces right now. The lighter the rifle, the lighter the trigger.....at least for me. Trying to shoot a 7# rifle with a 4# doesn't work for me.

I run mine really light, but I only run 2 stage triggers. If plan on fielding a rifle, the wieght should be at least 2 lbs. (with a single stage).
The 2 stage trigger gives you more advantage in that you can have a real light final stage, and still have the marigin of safety.
