I'd like some opinions on triggers. I have a GAP 308 with a Surgeon 591 and a stock Rem trigger. I would like to try something that I can set lighter for paper punching at long range.

What is your favorite trigger and why?

Sorry if this is a dead horse question.

Thanks!

Re: trigger upgrade

I really like the older stock Remington's after they have been worked over but I just received a Huber Concept's 2 stage Rem 700 trigger in the mail and I can't wait to test it. VERY WELL MADE.

Same here. I don't need a super duper 2 stage trigger that might go off if I bump it wrong.

Re: trigger upgrade

One more vote for the old Rem trigger. I think that a light trigger not only allows for poor form, but almost insures it. When you use a trigger below 2 lb, you get in the bump and run thing.
I like mine set at 4 pounds.
I have also found that the follow through that is nessassary on the AR platform has improved my shooting with the bolt guns. Stay on that trigger until you see the bullet hit the mark. Then let off.

Wow, I better get the popcorn for this one. Do some research on the Huber 2 stage trigger and you will find out that is as far away from the truth as you can get.
I have or have had a tuned old school Rem trigger, Jewell, Timney 510 and now the Huber.
For the best in value my vote goes for the Timney, for shooting off the bench, Jewell, for tactical shooting, the Huber.
Happy shooting, SScott

I know of a guy on the Hide that can get his to fire if you bump the rifle. And I have emails from Huber himself pretty much admitting to this fact.

Both set at 3-3.5 lbs.

I would stay away from superlight triggers. They can be a crutch to support bad technique. </div></div>

I have mine set at 2lbs. What should I look for to see if I have a bad habit? I dont have horizontal "fliers" on my targets.

Looks to be very well made for the price and feels great. Easily adjusts down around 1.5 lbs or you can leave it set up around 3 or 3.5 the way it is shipped.

I'll be ordering one soon.

Re: trigger upgrade

Light triggers cause bad form? I suspect most people pop their cork b/c they can't stand waiting on a heavier trigger to break on a moderate to heavier recoiling rifle.

Re: trigger upgrade

CG Jackson X-Treme Mod 22 2-stage Trigger from X-Treme shooting products is about the best trigger I have ever used. It fits in a variety of actions and is user friendly. This thing adjusts down to nothing with the most crisp feel possible. and a variety of Anschutz trigger shoes can be used with this trigger.
