More of a hunting rifle question than a tactical issue, but here goes.

Am thinking about replacing a Burris 3-10×40mm & installing one of these on my trusty M_77 in 270 Winchester. Anyone having experience with this optic or a type close to it, I'd appreciate a review for general range use & deer/elk/black bear hunting.

Specifically this one AccuPower® 4-16x50 Riflescope MOA Crosshair w/ Green LED, 30mm Tube.

We have had good experiences with the Accupower 1-8x, but less so with the high magnifications. That said, we have had similarly disappointing experiences with Burris in long-range. For a cost conscious buyer, I would look at the Steiner P4Xi and H4Xi with German glass and also the Vortex PST Gen 2 in SFP in mid and long-range magnifications.

I have an Accupower 2.5-10x56 on a 308 with green mil-dot reticle. Picked it up for static low light hunting at dawn/dusk. It works well, and the large objective does pull in enough light, but it is also pretty heavy.

At 10x, when looking at a 'busy' area and trying to pick out details it sometimes feels like I need just a bit more clarity or wishing it went to 11x, if you understand my meaning. That's not a big deal though, especially for the price ($550 on sale?)

I have a 4-16x50 Mil-Square. I like it a lot. The glass is very nice just like other Trijicons and it's not too heavy. The turrets are re-settable so you can always remove the caps and dial for distance.

The illumination is nice for low-light. Lots of difference between high and low and there are off positions between each brightness level.
