I am looking to get a scope for my Savage 10 BAS-K. I was wondering what I should get. I have been looking at the Trijicon 5-20x50 with a mildot reticle. Was wondering if anyone could help me out.

Re: Trijicon 5-20x50 Accupoint

Welcome.

You're going to need to provide a little more info. What distances are you shooting at? What do you want to use the rifle for? Just for fun? Competition? What's your budget? There are a lot of scopes that fit around the Trijicon so those details help narrow it down. That's a good scope I hear but I have never even looked through one so I can't comment on them specifically.

Re: Trijicon 5-20x50 Accupoint

Might want to look at a used Nightforce or used Leupold. It also depends on if you are benchrest shooting or tactical/practical shooting. If you're doing benchrest, you're going to normally want more power. Tactical wise, 20 is plenty. Maybe some others can chime in on the Trijicon, I'm just not sure on them. Scott at Liberty Optics (one of the Hide Sponsors) sells them as does SWFA. Check with either of them and see what they think. I know Scott will help you make a wise decision that will work best for you.

I personally like Vortex but not sure if you can 100% count on the new PST's yet. The Razor is above your current budget. The Normal Viper's (what I have) will work and are under your budget so you can buy or load more ammo. For me, more practice has certainly made up for glass and power on the targets.

This is too funny... I was in the exact same boat a few months ago, I also work for Cabelas. I looked at the Accupoint and the Leupold Mark 4. I ended up with a Mark 4 4.5-14x40mm Mildot Target Turrets. For my use (target), the illuminated reticle wasn't all that important, and the MK4 has greater adjustment. However, in hindsight I would've chosen a higher magnification. The MK4 was a smoking deal, you should check out the employee deals online... if you have questions about ordering, gimme a shout.

edit:
BTW, I like the glass in the MK4, but I think the VX-3 is still great, especially considering the price difference. You could likely land a VX-3 in a higher magnification for about the same as the MK4 I picked up. This would be a better buy, IMHO.

Re: Trijicon 5-20x50 Accupoint

Thanks this was really helpful. I am going to Cabelas today to hopefully pick up one. Yea I dont really need the illuminated for target shooting. And I was worried about the lack of adjustment on the Accupoint. I can get a VX-3 on the 3.5 deal so I should be all set.
Thanx alot
